November 13 - Indoor 300 round turkey shoot
October Club Meeting The October meeting was held on Monday, October 4 with 10 members in attendance. We discussed the constitution update, broadhead block targets, work parties, and Leagues. We also voted in one new membership.
New Members There was one new membership voted in at the October Meeting. Our newest membership is Wayne and Jen Buck. Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.
New Ahamo Signs:
Bart Witte had some new signs made for the club. One is a large sign to replace the faded one on the side of the building. The others are no smoking and no drinking signs for the inside of the building.
Here’s a request from Bart, asking for help putting up the sign on the outside of the building:
I have the signs for Ahamo in my truck. The one for the outside of the building I will need some "help" to put it up. My plan at this point is to bring a ladder or two to the club meeting in November to do this. If there is anyone who can be early to the meeting say 30 or so minutes to give me a hand putting it up that would be great. I will have it all prepped and ready, but I am guessing I will just need a couple more hands to get it up there and mounted. It is a bit heavier than I was expecting so I don't want to drop it! The smaller ones for inside look to be easy enough to put up and should not be a big deal. I will have everything with me to put it up I just could use some help and figured that to be the best night to get it. Bart
If you can make it to the November 1 meeting a half hour early to help Bart, please be there.
Indoor Leagues
I sent an email asking members what day was preferable for leagues. The largest response was Thursday. Leagues have already started, but if you would like to shoot along with the league—or join, just stop down at the range on any Thursday at 7:00.
Woods and Waters:
Our condolences to Woods and Waters and the family of Sonny Fiala. Sonny passed away in October. She operated Woods and Waters for several years, and hosted and organized quite a few Archery Tournaments. She was responsible for a lot of people getting into the sport of archery, and was a friend to many.
Following Sonny’s death, Woods and Waters closed it’s doors and is no longer in business.
Millie Foster:
Another long time supporter of Archery has passed away recently. I received an email that Patty Pulsifer sent this month, that Millie Foster passed away. Only some of the long time club members would remember Millie. She and her husband Earl were very active in the NFAA for many years. Here is what Patty sent:
I thought you might like to know, not sure you all know this lady, but Sharon Henniman's mother, Millie Foster, passed away today. She has been battling Cancer for quite sometime. Don't know any of the particulars just yet. She was Earl Fosters wife. Earl was Missouri's representative for the NFAA for many years and Millie has been in archery forever. Pat Pulsifer
Upcoming Work Party:
Mike Nickels is still planning a work party to rotate the cardboard and adjust the backing. He sent an email saying that he has been extremely busy at work and home and has not had time to get this scheduled.
Watch for an email when this does get scheduled so you can help:
2010 Hunting News:
If you shoot a buck and want it scored for our club big buck contest, bring it to the November or December club meeting to be measured. Even if you think it won’t win, it will at least give you an idea of your buck’s score, and it will be added to the newsletter.
All hunters that are successful should let me know so I can get a record of what was harvested for club awards. At our annual banquet we give out a very nice plaque to successful hunters, and every year after that give out plates to add to your plaque. To receive those, you need to let me know. Call me (Lee) at 592-3856, or email me at hunterleep@cox.net. Just give me your name and tell me what you harvested.
If you have a picture of game that you have harvested, please send that to me by mail or by email. Buck or Doe, all harvested game is a trophy that can be preserved in our newsletter and on our web page. At the end of the year, we also add pictures of harvested game to a club video that we show at our annual banquet.
So far this year I only have records of 2 successful hunters. I am hoping there are more, because I find it hard to believe that after more than a month into the season only two people have been successful.

Big Buck Contest
This year we are scoring our deer a little differently than in the past. To give your buck full credit for his antlers, we are scoring all points and measurements without deductions. Pope and Young scoring measures each antler and circumference, and subtracts the difference between each typical measurement. This year everything counts.
Mike Vandeman is the first person to take advantage of our current scoring system, and did it in a big way. Congratulations Mike for shooting an extremely nice buck, Mike’s buck measured a respectable 169 1/8. Mike is now officially in the lead for our 2010 Big Buck Contest. Mike has also harvested 2 doe so far this year

2010 Club Officers:
Only 2 1/2 more months until our annual banquet where we give out club awards, socialize, elect officers, have an excellent meal, give out door prizes, discuss how things went in 2010, and discuss our plans for the future.
As we get closer to that time, we will be accepting nominations for club officers. Our club doesn’t just coast from month to month. We need someone to be responsible for organizing and running meetings to discuss club business, someone to pay our rent and utilities, someone to take care of sending out club news and people to organize our tournaments, and run them. We also need people to maintain our indoor range.
Membership doesn’t just involve coasting from year to year. If you want our club to continue on in the future we need people to help run things. Volunteering to run for an office is encouraged of our membership. Note that our major offices are dues free offices. Those that take on those responsibilities do not pay dues for that year, but are expected to fulfill their duties.
At the current time we don’t know how many of our club officers will be running again in 2011. We should assume that all offices are open at this point.
One office that I would really like to see change hands is that of our Newsletter Editor. I have been doing this for 15 years now, and will only be around this area until mid 2012 when I retire and head to a warmer climate.
If someone would like to take over this position in 2011, I would be delighted. The web page isn’t too hard to keep updated, and the newsletter only takes about 5 or 6 hours a month to put together. Just note that in 2012 I will definitely not be running for this office.
Indoor Shoot:
Ahamo will be hosting an indoor shoot on November 13. This will be an indoor 300 round that we call our 300 round turkey shoot. We give away Turkeys or Cornish hens, and pumpkin pies, depending on how many people participate.
We will be discussing the particulars of this shoot at our November 1 meeting
Club News Needed:
If you have a hunting picture or story, please send it to me, I’d like to put it in the newsletter. If you have an item for sale, send me the information to put in the newsletter as well.
Please email me anything you would like to add to the newsletter, or contact me for my mailing address. You can even give me your article at a club meeting.
With Sympathy
I am sorry to report that Dick Sousa’s mother in law passed away in October. Dick, our club’s sympathy’s go out to you and Vonnie for your loss.
