March Club Meeting
The March meeting was held on the 7thwith 18 members in attendance. Two new members were voted into the group.Wahoo preparation, maintenance of the backstops at the indoor range, and the need to possibly locate a location for the outdoor range were discussed.
New Members
Our newest members are Viki Holoubeck and Jr Gerdes.Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.
Kid’s League News
A kids League was planned to start on March 26 at the indoor range. No one showed up for that, so the league is officially canceled. If there is an interest in a kids program, Lee Pereksta is still willing to coordinate. Contact Lee at hunterleep@cox.net, or 402 592-3856 if you have kids that would like to participate.
Both members and non-members are welcome to participate. If 5 or more people are interested, then it will be scheduled to start on a Saturday morning again. Since there doesn’t appear to be an interest in a league, Lee would be willing to be there to just let kids shoot, and provide instruction if that is wanted. The preference is to work with kids that have their own equipment. However, the club does have 5 Genesis bows that could be used on a first come first served basis.
Wahoo Update
A total of 355 shooters attended the 2011 Wahoo Shoot.Over thirty-three targets were set up and included a rotating bles buck, 2 bionics, 2 towers to shoot from, a turkey blind, and a couple of elevated targets.
Members attended planned meetings, inventoried targets and equipment, found and signed up target sponsors, cut trees, loaded equipment, worked 2 long days setting up the range, ran registration, policed and ran shooting lines, helped with registration, and took down all of the equipment and targets after the shoot.
A shoot of this magnitude would be impossible without all the help of our members. Thanks to all who helped.
Special thanks to Dick Sousa for organizing the shoot, running meetings, and coordinating workparties; Bart Witte and Ed Rebarich for building the vertical bow racks and helping with setup; Lee Pereksta for organizing and running registration and acting as the point of contact for shooters pre-registering for the shoot; Akiye Rebarich for organizing the food and the food committee for the shoot; Vonnie Sousa for working both days in the kitchen with family visiting; Dave Holthouse for electronically entering scores and helping at workparties; Jason Buerman for the use of his large trailer at the tree cutting workparty; Jesus Gonzalez and Jeff Schierbeck for the use of their trailers;and Bart Witte and Buck Knight for the use of their ATVs at Two Rivers State Park.
Outdoor Range
The possible need for a new outdoor range location was discussed at the March meeting. The owners of the current range are facing financial hardship and it is likely the property will close or possibly exchange hands.
July 8 will be the last day to use the range for sure.Shoots in April and May will continue to be held at this location, but after early July there is the possibility the club will need to have another location.
Members are encouraged to provide suggestions. In the past, Ahamo has even had an outdoor range in a city park. The current outdoor range is about 25 acres.
Indoor Range Maintenance
The cardboard backstops at the indoor range are in need of maintenance. We will likely just need to reshuffle and restack the cardboard. This will be discussed further at the April meeting.
Thanks to Bob Taylor and Jerry Smetana for beginning the backstop maintenance.
