March Club Meeting

The March meeting was held on March 2. There were 21 members in attendance. We discussed mostly the Wahoo shoot, plus a couple of other upcoming shoots. We also voted in three new memberships.

New members:

There were three new memberships voted in at the March meeting; Mel Dunham, Dan McClure, and Richard and Elizabeth Bonilla. Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.

Wahoo Shoot Summary:

Phew - we did it. The 2008 Wahoo shoot is over, and it was a huge success. We surpassed last years count of 287 shooters by more than 40 shooters (328 this year), and it all went like clockwork.

We held several planning meetings, obtained a lot of door prizes, several sponsors, and had plenty of help. I won't mention names; everyone that helped deserves to be mentioned and there are just too many to list and I might miss someone. If you helped out in any way, thank you all. We had plenty of help cutting trees, loading trailers and setting up the range, enough people to work the food area to make things run smoothly, plenty of line judges, and a lot of people assisting with registration.

What was great, was the comments heard throughout the shoot about how quickly we handled food, how smoothly registration ran, how well the range was set up, how professionally the shoot was run, and how well our club members worked together. Every comment heard during the shoot and comments received over the internet by those that shot included the words; we will definitely be back next year. That even came from a group of archers from Oklahoma that shot both days and stayed to the very end for the awards before driving home.

I for one, had a lot of fun participating in all of the workparties. We had plenty of help for all of them, and it was great seeing how well all of us worked together. If anyone has pictures taken during the shoot, please make copies for me so I can put them in our end of year video.

If you want to see the final results, you will need to visit our web site. We had so many shooters that the results took two pages to list them all.

Newsletter:

If you are not getting the newsletter by email or receiving email notifications from the club, please send me your current email address so I can add it to my email list. You will get communications from the club more quickly, and will get an electronic newsletter and the same pictures that are in the newsletter but in color.

Note that I shrink the pictures a little for the email pictures so they don't fill up your in box to take too long to download.

To send me your email address, please send me an email at hunterleep@cox.net.

Newsletter Items:

If you have a hunting picture or story, please send it to me, I'd like to put it in the newsletter. If you have an item for sale, send me the information to put in the newsletter as well.

Please email me anything you would like to add to the newsletter, or contact me for my mail address. You can even give me your article at a club meeting.

News From Club Members:

Lee, I believe I lost a blue stan back tension release at the indoor range. Can you put something in the next news letter for me? Please use my work number which is 402-289-5666. thanks, Scott (Bailey)

Lee can you put a bow for sale in the next newsletter Matthews Q2 Camo 29" Draw 60 Lb $350.00 Thanks Bill (Rhoades). Call Bill at 932-0417

Archery Instructor Certification:

Here's another note on an upcoming Archery Instructor Certification Class. Note that this will teach you how to teach, as well as improve your own shooting technique. The class is normally taken for $125.00. Bill Arledge is teaching it and will be giving club members the class for the cost of the teaching materials you will be receiving ($25.00).

The instructor training class will be held on Saturday April 19 at our indoor range. Note that the range will be closed to open shooting while the class is going on. If you would like to become a certified instructor, contact Bill and reserve a spot. Bill's number is 402 393-5371 (home), or 402 659-6960 (work).

Pig Hunt News:

Several of our members went on a pig hunt in February. I usually go but passed this year to use my hunting money to buy a new bow. I should have gone hunting. Nine people were in the group that went and all together they shot about 2,000 pounds of hogs. The biggest one going to Jesse that was 500 pounds dressed. Congratulations Jesse. The hunters that went that you may know included Dick Sousa, Bill Rhoades, Jesse Gonzalez, Brent Simmerman, John Dueling, Bill Hoscheid, Jesse's son Jesus (Bam Bam), and Jesse's brother in law. All seemed to have a great time. Hopefully I'll be able to get pictures into our end of year video.

3D News:

Our next 3D is our first outdoor 3D of the year. We will have lots of work to do for that shoot, so roll up your sleeves and give us a hand. We will have a quick work party on Friday the 11th at the indoor range to load equipment, and will be meeting at the outdoor range on Saturday the 12th at 9am. If you're not too tired we can shoot as soon set up is done. The range is located at 245th and Q. Just take Q street West to 245th, then turn left (just before crossing the Elkhorn River. We will be about 1/4 mile down the road on the left.

Bring your 4-wheelers if you have one, and be prepared for whatever the weather is. We will be setting up rain or shine.

We will also be needing help tearing down on Sunday. Tear down will start at about 1:30. Registration goes from 8am to noon on Sunday if you want to register and shoot then.

Plan on some more discussion as we finalize plans for the workparty at our club meeting on the 7th.
