June Club Meeting
The June meeting was held on June 1. There were 6 members in attendance. Steve was unable to attend so Dick ran the meeting. We discussed participation in a joint club event, a class we put on for a group of UNMC students, and our upcoming 3D.

New members:
There were no new memberships voted in at the June meeting.

UNMC Class:
Several of us helped put on a class for a group of students from UNMC on May 22 and 23. Thanks go out to those that participated.

The students needed quite a bit of help, and it was really enjoyable working with them, and watching their excitement at being able to shoot bow’s and arrows. We gave an overview of archery, discussed safety, and taught them basic form. Then we let them shoot at targets for a while, and then shot at balloons. They won prizes for shooting bulls eyes and for breaking balloons. I’m not sure who had the most fun, the students shooting archery and winning prizes, or those of us cheering along with them.

If we get a chance to do this again, don’t miss out. Volunteer to help.

May 17 3D Shoot:
Our first outdoor shoot of the year was a great success. Mike Vandeman coordinated the set-up, and it was one of the best 3D set-up’s we’ve had. The targets were challenging, and fun, food was great, and the archers all had a great time.
May 17 shoot 1

It was surprising how quickly we set up the range on Saturday. Mike had put flags out with target locations and gave us directions as to what target went where. We had plenty of help and were done in a couple of hours. The next shoot should be a breeze to set up, as we left out most of the targets. We’ll be letting members register and shoot immediately after set up at our next shoot. So if you’d like to shoot in a relaxed atmosphere with a couple of members… just show up to help set up, and bring your equipment.
May 17 shoot 2

During the May shoot, I had several archers stop by the registration table telling me this was the best set up they’ve seen in a long time. One of them was so happy with the shoot, I directed him to Mike Vandeman. I wanted someone besides me to hear how great a set up others thought we had. We ended up with 118 shooters.
May 17 shoot 3

John Terfone was in charge of food for the shoot, and did a great job. He made pancake, egg, and sausage sandwiches for breakfast, and cooked up plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch. Everything was delicious and it seemed to top off the great set-up we had for our shoot.

Archery Class
Bill Lewis sent me an email about a potential class we could sign up for at Golden Arrow. We had a class at Ahamo a while back taught by Bernie Pellerite that several of us attended. Golden Arrow is looking at doing the same thing with George Royals. If you’re interested check out his web site at http://www.grivtech.com/ . There’s quite a bit of information on the class and it looks like a real learning experience. The cost is $250, and is 2 full days of teaching and shooting.

If you’re interested, Contact Bill at blewis@fnni.com to let him know you’re interested. Bill said that Bill Orel and Kris Lapalla are setting this up, but I don’t have contact information on them. Just ask Bill to pass your contact information on to them so they can get with you when they set the class up. The dates for the class will be set, when they get enough people interested in taking the class.

More 3D News:
Our next shoot will be on June 28. Set up should be pretty easy, as all we need to do is walk the range, move targets slightly per Mike’s guidance, and do some trimming. If you have a gas string trimmer, bring it to the work-party.

After the shoot on Sunday, it will be a larger work effort, as we need to bring all of the targets in after that shoot. 4 wheelers are more than welcome if you have one. We’ll just need to load the targets and all our equipment into our trailer and store it at the Church camp until our July shoot. Come out Sunday to help us with tear down. As always, the more help we get, the faster we will be done. Tear down should be starting at about 1:30.

With that said, I’ll say my apologies now. I’m leaving for my vacation Monday morning, so I’ll be cutting out on tear down so I can get home and get the scores out on our web site and finish packing.

I’ll be at the workparty Saturday, and after set-up is complete, I’ll let anyone that wants to—to register and shoot then. Believe me, it’s very relaxing shooting after set up. There’s no crowds, and no waiting.

Multi Club Shoot:
Mike Vandeman attended a meeting with other clubs from the area, discussing a potential joint effort to run a Rinehart shoot. It would be a pretty big deal with the potential of drawing several hundred archers. Four clubs would be working together to put this on and our profit would be about $500. The shoot would be in Freemont, and it would be a lot of work setting up and helping run the shoot.

An alternative would be to hold a multi club shoot, not sponsored by Reinhart. It would be more work, each club would need to provide 25 targets, and the profit might be greater. We didn’t rule out either option, but it hasn’t been decided yet if the shoot was something all of the clubs wanted to pursue. The shoot probably wouldn't be until next year.
