Address / Phone Updates If your address, email address, or phone number has changed, or even if you suspect we may not have the correct information and it might need to be updated, please let me know. Send me an email at hunterleep@cox.net, contact a board member, or just give me that information at a club meeting.
We want to be sure to have the correct information in our records that we use for club communications.
July 12 3D Shoot:
Our last outdoor shoot of the year went very well. We had 68 shooters, and all had a great time. It looked like rain might dampen things, but after a few sprinkles early in the morning and a few in the afternoon, everything blew over.
We had a great turnout to set up, and plenty of help for tear down.
We needed to set up the entire course for this shoot, and were done by 11am. Buck, Matt, and Dave’s 4-wheelers were extremely helpful, and the reason all went so well. The course layout was such that we could get to most targets with the 4-wheelers and we had only a few minor glitches; a flat tire on the trailer, a broken cable while pulling Buck out of a tight spot, and the final walk through to mark the course found 3 targets we missed setting up (Dave graciously unloaded his 4-wheeler after putting it away to correct that).
John and Jimmy ran food (it was great seeing Jimmy out there again), and registration ran smoothly. John makes a mean pancake, sausage and cheese breakfast sandwich that we’ll need to wait until our 2010 shoots to see again.
Tear down went as smoothly as set-up, but without any minor glitches. Just before we started, what looked like a mean storm blew through. Some of us grabbed rain gear, but put it away when it quickly cleared up. Thanks again to Buck, Matt, and Dave for bringing their 4-wheelers.
The final workparty was on Monday to unload targets. Thanks to all that helped there.
Indoor Range News Steve Williamson and Mike Nickels have been planning how to upgrade the back stops at our indoor range for some time now. Now that our outdoor 3D season is over they are planning to set up part of the backstops a new way.
They will be compressed tighter and the cardboard will be stacked a little less tall than the current set-up. Once they have set-up and tested their ideas… look for a workparty announcement to help set up the rest of the range
Hunting News:
The 2009 deer season is getting closer. Now is the time to start setting up stands and putting in more practice time. Be sure to pull old stands and check them over closely for rust and loose bolts. Also be sure to check your safety harness over closely and purchase a new one if an upgrade is needed. Falling is the number one cause of bowhunter hunting accidents.
When you purchase your archery tags this year, you will notice there’s a bonus tag attached again. Great news for those of us that buy more than one tag each year.
As a final note, if you’re planning on submitting an application to hunt at Giffords this year. The application period is July 15 through August 15.
Game and Parks:
Everything you need to know about the 2009 hunting season can be found on the Game and Parks website. I just visited the website at www.ngpc.state.ne.us to see if there were any items I could pick up to add to the newsletter. Here’s a couple:
·Resident deer permits for 2009 are $30.00
·Habitat stamps cost $16.00 and are not required for those 15 years old and younger.
·Non-Resident permits cost $209.00
·Non-Resident Season Choice (doe only) permits are $55.00
·Resident Turkey permits are $24.00
·Non-Resident Turkey permits are $91.00
·There is an October anterless firearm season to be on October 9 through October 11 for season choice areas 18 and 21.
·Archery Turkey Hunting is allowed during the November firearm season. Hunter Orange is required.
·There is an Apprentice Bowhunter Education Exemption Certificate available for hunters that need a Bowhunter Education Certificate but do not have one. Apprentice Certificate holders must be accompanied while hunting by an experienced hunter, the Certificate can be purchased only once in a person’s lifetime, and it can be renewed only once. The fee is $5.00. There are other restrictions you will need to check on as well that are described in the 2009 big game hunting guide.
·Baiting is illegal. You cannot shoot a deer within 200 yards of a bait site placed within the past 60 days.
·Check stations in the Omaha area include Full Draw Archery, Hitches Plus at 11400 S 72nd st. and Van Fleets in Ralston.
Archery Class: Here’s the info on a potential Archery class one more time in case anyone might be interested.
Bill Lewis sent me an email about a potential class we could sign up for at Golden Arrow. We had a class at Ahamo a while back taught by Bernie Pellerite that several of us attended. Golden Arrow is looking at doing the same thing with George Royals. If you’re interested check out his web site at http://www.grivtech.com/ . There’s quite a bit of information on the class and it looks like a real learning experience. The cost is $250, and is 2 full days of teaching and shooting.
If you’re interested, Contact Bill at blewis@fnni.comto let him know you’re interested. Bill said that Bill Orel and Kris Lapalla are setting this up, but I don’t have contact information on them. Just ask Bill to pass your contact information on to them so they can get with you when they set the class up. The dates for the class will be set, when they get enough people interested in taking the class.
