January Meeting The January meeting was held during our Annual Banquet on January 8, at the Upstream Brewery. We had over 60 members attending as we gave out awards, elected new officers, and generally had a pretty good time. We voted in 3 new members during the meeting.
New Members There were 3 new memberships voted in at the January Meeting. Our newest members are: Tim Ketelsen, John and Stacy Dale, and Anthonio Cantu III.
Range to be closed February 1:
The cub scout den that we were going to host for an archery program on January 11, canceled because school was closed that day due to weather. The program has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 1. The range will be closed to open shooting that day from 6:00 to 9:30 for that program. Some of our members volunteered to help with that. Thank you Jennifer, Dave, and Jeremy.
The plan is to give a short talk on archery and safety, and then give the scouts lessons on how to shoot and work with them as they shoot our Genesis bows.
In discussing the program with the Den Leader, he said that at the beginning of the scout year, he had his scouts list things they wanted to do during the year. Every one of them had ‘learn about archery’ on their list.
Kids Program Needed
Kids Program Needed: As mentioned in the above, archery is something the Scouts are very much interested in. Also, as I am the person that gets questions addressed to the club on the web—I have been getting more and more people asking if we have a kids program at our club. I have also received a request from the Orion Archery Club in Blair asking if we would be interested in a shoot between our kids and a group from their kids league.
I think the time is way past, for Ahamo to get active in a kids program. I brought this up at the Annual Banquet, and there seemed to be a pretty good response from members.
I’m proposing now, that we simply start a kids league with members assisting with it. We could hold it on Saturday mornings, or on an evening that members think would work best for them. I would be willing to coordinate getting this started, but would definitely need help running it. I would not be able to be there every day, and I’m sure there will be members willing to assist that would have not be able to attend all of the time either.
We will discuss this at our next Club meeting. If you have any children that would be interested in this, please be at the next meeting. You can also respond by email to me (hunterleep@cox.net ), that you would be interested, and let me know what day of the week would work best for you.
I’m proposing that we simply make this a league instead of a class environment, with members responsible for instructing their children on how to shoot, or possibly having a class type of environment an hour before the league starts for instruction before the competition starts.
Annual Banquet:
The Ahamo Annual Banquet was held on January 8 at the Upstream Brewery. There were over 60 members in attendance, and we had a pretty good time.
Outstanding Service Award:
Congratulations to Mike Palm, who was recognized at our Annual Banquet for his outstanding service to the Ahamo Archery Club in 2010. Mike Nickles presented a plaque to Mike at the banquet, and gave an eloquent description of Mike’s service to the club throughout 2010. Congratulations Mike, on the receipt of this award.
Big Buck Contest:
Congratulations to Mike Vandeman, the winner of Ahamo’s Big Buck Contest. Not many people can say they won this award—and Mike is now one of these few. Mike shot a very nice 6x6 that scored 169 1/8 to win that award.
2010 Successful Hunters:
The final list of successful Hunters follows. Awards were given out at the annual banquet. If you did not receive yours, please contact me (Lee) to arrange picking it up.

2011 Wahoo Shoot
We have held 2 Wahoo meetings so far, and are quickly bringing everything together. Watch for information on the next Wahoo Planning meeting and attend if you are able. We will also be discussing Wahoo at our next Club meeting.
Club News Needed:
If you have a hunting picture or story, please send it to me, I’d like to put it in the newsletter. If you have an item for sale, send me the information to put in the newsletter as well.
Please email me anything you would like to add to the newsletter, or contact me for my mailing address. You can even give me your article at a club meeting.
Club Member Discount:
Bow-Winkles Archery in Plattsmouth asked me to add a note in our newsletter that they are giving a 12% discount on Hoyt Bows through the end of February. You can contact Bow-Winkles at 402 296-4395, or through their web site (Bowwinkles.com ).
Next 3D Shoots:
Ahamo is again participating in the Winter Games. We will be hosting the 3D part of that shoot on February 5 and 6. We will need plenty of help with that, as it is a 2 day shoot with set-up on a Friday night. If you can help, the work party to set-up will be at 6:00 pm on February 4. We will also need line judging help on Saturday and Sunday, and help tearing down on Sunday starting at about 1:30.
Note that our next club meeting is Monday, February 7; one day after the Winter Games.
After the Winter Games we will have one more indoor 3D on February 20, with set-up on the 19th at 1:00.
During the meeting, we voted our 2011 club officers as follows: Bart Witte—President Ronnie Courvelle—Vice President Brent Simmerman—Treasurer Jason Bureman—Secretary Jennifer Davis—Newsletter Editor Mike Palm—3D Coordinator Jeremy Smetana—Indoor Coordinator Ed Rebarich—Trustee Dave Holthouse—Trustee
Two of the key positions are being assumed by new board members; the Secretary position, and the Newsletter Editor position. The previous holders of those positions, Mike Nickels and Lee Pereksta, will be sharing those positions with the new Board Members as they transition into those positions.
Thank You’s are in order for those that were Board Members in 2010. First of all, thanks to Ronnie for assuming the role of President for most of 2010 when Jerry resigned that role due to a move to another State. Ronnie did a very nice job running meetings and taking over that responsibility.
A thank you again, to Brent for being our 2010 Treasurer. Brent has been our Treasurer for several years now, and I don’t know what we would do without him in that role. The Treasurer is responsible for paying all of our bills, depositing and maintaining all of the monies collected in dues, shoots, and other activities; and keeping our club financially Sound. Brent—from me, and all of Ahamo, thank you for doing such an excellent job.
Mike Nickels was our club Secretary for the past few years, and was a real driving force on the Board in that role. Not only did he perform all of his Secretarial duties admirably, but he coordinated the updating of the backstops at the indoor range, coordinated our activities in the Reinhart 100 shoot, and was a key player in our Wahoo Shoot.
Mike Palm was our 3D Coordinator In 2010, and did an excellent job running our shoots. Thank you Mike, and thanks also to Tammy for helping out at our shoots along with Mike. Mike also helped coordinate the Reinhart 100 with Mike Nickels, and played a key role in our 2010 Wahoo Shoot.
Other Board Members that played key roles in 2010, include our Trustees; Ed Rebarich, and Dave Holthouse. Both were key players in our club events in 2010, and did an excellent job in their positions.
A special thanks here—to some of our non board members that played key roles in 2010. Mike Vandeman and John Terfone were key to the success of our 3D shoots this past year. Mike worked along side of Mike Palm to set up and run many of our 2D shoots, and John ran the food concessions at our outdoor 3D shoots.
Also, we can’t forget all that Dick Sousa has done for the club throughout 2010, and in past years. Dick attends all of our club meetings and work parties, and along with Ed calls all members to remind them of work parties and club events during the year. Dick’s most important role in the club has been as the coordinator of our Wahoo shoot, every year we have held it. Without Dick coordinating things, that shoot would not be as successful as it has been every year.
I have been our Newsletter Editor for several years and am somewhat stepping down this year. My plans are to retire sometime in 2012, and prepare to move out of state. I will be working with Jennifer this year to share the newsletter and web duties as she transitions into that position.
