January Club Meeting

The January meeting was held at our Annual Banquet on January 12. There were about 50 Members in attendance. We discussed many things, gave out many awards, and had a great time. We also voted in one new board member. Ronnie Courvelle is our 2008 Sergeant at Arms.

New Members:

There were two new memberships voted in at the January meeting; Nick Tramp, and Kent and Deb Colgrove. Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.

Annual Club Banquet:

The Annual Banquet was held on Saturday January 12. We had about 50 members attending and everyone had a great time. If you missed it, you missed quite a bit. We gave out awards and prizes galore, discussed a successful 2007, discussed plans for 2008, and saw a video that played throughout the night with pictures of 2007 club members and events. Most of this newsletter will be a summary of what went on.

2007 Thank You's:

Steve Williamson went over a list of everyone that went above and beyond throughout the year and thanked everyone. As always he apologized for anyone he may have left off of his list saying it was not intentional it's just that there were so many that helped make our year a success he may have left someone off of the list. (I will say the same here, as I did my best to copy down what Steve discussed at the meeting).

Thank you's go out to.....

  • Dick Glaseman for replacing the lock at the indoor range and making new keys for the entire club.
  • Dich Glaseman, Bill Rhoades, Ed Rebarich, Steve Murphy for replacing the outside door at the indoor range.
  • Mike Stanner for hosting outdoor leagues at his house and for hanging new lights at the indoor range.
  • John and Brian Dueling for making new bow racks for the indoor range.
  • Wes Brayman and his son for the great job they did painting the indoor range.
  • Aaron Good for taking care of the indoor range throughout the year, and for patching the walls before Wes painted.
  • Matt Turner and Troy Bryant for coordinating our 3D shoots and for painting new lines at the indoor range.
  • Kit Secord for allowing us to store targets at his house between the Wahoo Shoot and our first outdoor shoot.
  • Dick Sousa for keeping us on track as Vice President throughout the year, and for the excellent job he always does coordinating our annual Wahoo Shoot.
  • Ed Rebarich and Dick Sousa for being our calling committee.
  • Dave Jackson for selling food at almost all of our outdoor shoots in 2007.
  • Jesse Gonzalez for finding a place for us to store our trailer.
  • Scott Specht for all he did last year helping at Wahoo. He found several target sponsors for us, found a place for us to cut trees, and saved us many hours of clean up time with his big red truck at Wahoo.
  • Rich Chandler for all of the target sponsors he found for us last year, and for letting us use his trailer throughout the year.
  • Brent Simmerman for keeping our books and handling our finances as our Treasurer.
  • Tom Bockman for an excellent job as our secretary.
  • Steve Gewinner for being our Sergeant at Arms.
  • And last but not least, Dick Sousa recognized Steve Williamson for everything he did as our president for the past 2 years. Without Steve, the club would not be where it is today.

Special Awards:

Outstanding member awards went to Dave Jackson and Lee Pereksta. Steve recognized Dave for all of his work throughout the year. Dave joined the club as a new member in 2007, and even before he had a bow, he volunteered and ran the food tent at all of our outdoor shoots in 2007. He did an excellent job doing that, and helped at almost all of our workparties. Steve also recognized Lee for his support throughout the year as newsletter editor, and for running registration for all of our shoots.

Steve and the rest of the board also recognized Lee for his support of the club for so many years, and presented Lee with a Life Member Award in the Ahamo Archery Club.

2008 Dues:

If you have not yet paid your 2008 dues, you do not have a key to the indoor range. Contact Brent to make arrangements to pay your dues. You can get with him at the next club meeting or possibly at the shoot this next week-end (or even at the Wahoo Meeting on the 16th).

If you decide to not rejoin this year, you do not need to turn in your key as we have in the past. There is a new lock that the old keys cannot be re-tooled for.

Members that do not pay their dues will receive the newsletter in January and February. After the March meeting your dues will be considered delinquent and you will no longer be considered a member. Your newsletter and other club communications will cease and you will need to pay the initiation fee again if you re-join.

Membership benefits include discounted fees at our shoots, newsletters and other club communications, a key to the indoor range, and camaraderie with other members. For participating memberships, membership also includes a commitment to participate at work parties.

Next 3D:

Our next 3D will be on January 20th at the indoor range. There is a work party to set up on the 19th at 1:00.

If you will not be able to shoot on Sunday, you may be able to do that on Saturday after set-up. So Bring your bow if you would like to shoot.

Registration on Sunday is from 8am to noon.

Wahoo:

Now is when our club starts getting ready for our 2008 Wahoo shoot. For members that are not familiar with that shoot; Ahamo has a premier, quality, indoor 3D shoot each year in March. We draw over 300 shooters from Nebraska and several surrounding states. We even have people that plan vacations to visit relatives in the Omaha area so they can attend our shoot.

The shoot is held at the fairgrounds in Wahoo Nebraska, and is in an enclosed building with a dirt floor surrounded by a cement area for equipment, bow-racks, shooting, and food. A food committee serves food from an enclosed area in the building, and there is an enclosed registration area. We have plenty of door prizes, and very nice awards for shooters.

We cut down a lot of scrub trees and branches that we stake up all over the range, set up and use our pop-up targets, and enlist the support of all of our members. We need help with registration, running shooting lines, and at work parties to set-up, tear down, and to do many other things as we prepare for the shoot.

In addition, in spite of all of the work, we have a lot of fun.

There is a meeting on Wednesday the 16th at 7:00 at Lansky's at 36th St and HW 370 in Bellevue to discuss the shoot as we prepare for it. All members that would like to attend are invited.

Since I run registration for the shoot, I am already soliciting members, spouses, and responsible children to help. Shooting lines are 9am and 2pm on Saturday March 15, and 8am and 1pm on the 16th. I need 5 people to sit at the registration tables for an hour and a half before each shooting line and people at the end of the last line Sunday to pick up and sort cards. Please email me (hunterleep@cox.net) or just let me know if, and when you can help. Registration is not difficult and I have it pretty well organized.

Joad News:

Note that Joad has started again. We hold it at our indoor range every Thursday at 6:30 pm. Joad is for all children up to age 18. They can use their own equipment, or can use bows and arrows that will be at the range for them to shoot.

Joad is an opportunity for children to obtain excellent instruction on the proper techniques of shooting, to teach them the basics of proper shooting.

Newsletter Items:

If you have a hunting picture or story, please send it to me, I'd like to put it in the newsletter. If you have an item for sale, send me the information to put in the newsletter as well.

Please email me anything you would like to add to the newsletter, or contact me for my mail address. You can even give me your article at a club meeting. My Email address is: hunterleep@cox.net.
