 February Club Meeting

The February monthly meeting was held on February 7.  The new board was briefly introduced and Wahoo organization, Wahoo target sponsorship, and plans for a kid’s league were discussed.  The N100 was mentioned as well as the inventory of awards.  Four new members were voted into the club.

 New Members

Our newest members are Randy Ficktor, Tim Lehman, Darrel Boyd, and Wayne Baxter.  Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.

 Membership Information

If you have not yet paid your dues, as of the March meeting you will no longer receive the club news or club discounts at our shoots.  The lock to the indoor range was changed in January and you need to pay your dues to receive the new key.  If you are not rejoining, please turn in your key to a club member—we retool the keys each year and need all keys to be returned.

As a member, you are allowed to bring guests to shoot at the indoor range.  A guest is allowed access to the range up to 3 times before he/she needs to join the club.  If you bring a non-member to the range, please communicate this to them and ask that they join if they intend to continue to use the indoor range.

 Kid’s League

At the February Club Meeting we discussed starting a kids league. Because the range is so cold at this time of year, we decided to start the league the Saturday after our Wahoo shoot. The league is officially planned to start on Saturday March 26 at the indoor range. The current plan is to start at 9am, but that could change. Before determining that, we would like to get a count of how many would like to participate and their ages. We may end up holding a 10 yard league and a 20 yard league, depending on age and ability.

The league is not planned to be a class. It is planned to be a league for kids that already know how to shoot. Instruction during the league will mainly be pointers on form and league etiquette, and assistance in adjusting sights or fixing equipment that fails during leagues. The duration of the league will probably be through the end of May, but again, that could change once we see how many are planning to participate.

Lee Pereksta will run the league along with any volunteers that would like to assist. There will be a nominal fee, probably $3.00 per person, to go back to the club and to fund awards.

Participants do not need to be club members. If your child would like to participate, please email Lee at hunterleep@cox.net, or contact him at 592-3856 and let him know your child’s age.

Again, this will be for kids that already know how to shoot. The skill level is not a key here, only that your child knows the basic skills of knocking an arrow, shooting 5 arrows at a target, and can follow safety rules.

 Wahoo News

Wahoo is almost here. This shoot is above and beyond the effort needed to put on our other shoots. We cut and haul several trailer loads of trees and branches; prepare stakes, signs, and numbers; purchase many new targets; load and haul targets, rebar, plywood, bow racks, pop-up hardware; plus more props and hardware.

We also have work parties to load and unload trailers; set up trees, build elaborate target set-ups, set up targets and at the end of the shoot tear down and load everything to take to the indoor range.

For this shoot we ask that all members participate—even those that have non-working memberships. If you are available for any of our workparties or during the shoot—we need your help. The effort to set up and put this shoot on is way more than any of our other shoots. We need 7 people to run registration for each shooting line, at least that many to patrol the shooting lines with orange vests and our safety signs to keep the shooters safe, and people to run concessions each day.

All members are encouraged to attend our next club meeting on March 7, as we line up trucks and trailers, and finalize our work-party plans.

Last year we had  almost 400 shooters, and we expect to have more than that this year.

If you know anyone that is planning to attend, encourage them to pre-register by calling Lee Pereksta at 402 592-3856 or humterleep@cox.net, or by going through the Contact Us link on our web site . Pre-registration assures that people can shoot with those they pre-register with, and assures they have a place on a line.

With that said, after we finish setting up on Friday the 18th, we allow members to register and shoot early so that they can be available to help with the shoot on Saturday and Sunday. The catch is that you need to be at Wahoo when we finish setting up in order to shoot. That time is usually about 1:30. We won’t let members shoot that arrive after we all start shooting, so that we can head home at a decent hour Friday afternoon as many of us will be back at Wahoo early on Saturday. If you will be shooting on Friday, you don’t need to pre-register.

 Wahoo Food and Registration Help

Akiye Rebarich is again coordinating the food committee. If you or your spouse can help with serving food, please contact Akiye at 345-7608. Only so many people can fit in the kitchen, so she needs to be careful that we don’t have too many for one shooting line and not enough for others.

We also need deserts for the shoot. If you can provide something (brownies, rice crispy treats, fudge, etc.) please do that. You can bring those items during the shoot, or on Friday during the workparty.

Registration is another special area where help is needed. We have it set up to run like an assembly line, with each person doing their own tasks. One person will look up names and write down target assignments on score cards, and another will write names on score cards and mark the cards with colored markers indicating the target types to be shoot. One person will also be needed to collect the money and hand the cards and door prize tickets to the archers. It needs to be organized, as we will have over 100 people going through the registration process in about one hour prior to each shooting line.

If you can help with registration below are the times we need help. Call Lee Pereksta at 592-3856 with the times you will be available, or email Lee at hunterleep@cox.net. I do have a couple of people that said they can help at any time, so I’ll need to contact them a few days before the shoot to let them know when they are needed.

Also, I will be there all day, both days to help with registration and answer questions, and Dave Holthouse will be there to handle entering names and scores into the computer.

Here’s when registration help is needed:

Saturday March 19: 7:30 am—9:15 am

Saturday March 19: 12:00 pm—2:15 pm

Sunday March 20: 6:30 am—8:15 am

Sunday March 20: 11:00 am—1:15 pm

Sunday March 20: 2:30—4:00 to collect and sort cards

 Wahoo Target Sponsorship

We also obtain money to defray the costs of targets and other expenses by selling target sponsorships. For $50, we will put some very nice signs beside a target saying ‘This Target Sponsored By:….). If you would like to sponsor a target or know someone that would like to sponsor one, Brent Simmerman is collecting the money and names of sponsors, so contact him when you do obtain a sponsorship. Brent’s number is 597-9497.

 3D News

We had 63 shooters at our portion of the Winter Archery Festival shoot on January 5th and 6th and 76 shooters at the February 19 and 20th 3D.

Thanks to Burt Witte and Ed Rebarich for constructing the new vertical steel bowracks.  They will be a great space-saver at Wahoo this year.
