February Club Meeting
The February meeting was held on Feb 1. We mostly discussed the wahoo shoot and the two indoor 3D’s to be held prior to that. We also voted in 4 new memberships.

New Members
We voted in four new memberships at our January meeting. Our newest memberships are Rob & Erin Lyons, Jim and Amanda Morillo, Mikw Hutchison, and Derick Cagle. Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.

Board Member Update

We have one more Board member that I did not mention in the last newsletter. Dave Holthouse was elected to a board position as a club trustee at the annual banquet and I left that out of the last newsletter—sorry about that Dave. Dave and Ed Rebarich are our two Trustees that will attend board meetings as ‘members at large’.

Membership Information

If you have not yet paid your dues, as of the March meeting you will no longer receive club news or club discounts at our shoots. Note also that as of January the lock to the indoor range was changed and you will need to pay your dues to get a new key. If you are not rejoining, please turn in your key to a club member—we retool the keys each year and need all keys to be returned.

One more item regarding membership. As a member you are allowed to bring guests with you to shoot at our indoor range. A guest is allowed to take advantage of that 3 times before they need to join the club to gain admittance. If you bring non-members with you to the range, please note that and ask them to join if they intend on continuing to use our indoor range.

Hunting News

Congratulations to Jesse Gonzalez for being a successful hog hunter during a February hunting trip by some of Ahamo’s members. Jesse shot two pigs and his brother in law shot a fallow deer.

There were 7 of us that went with 6 hunting, and Jesse was the only successful hunter. We went to a ranch in Oklahoma, and got there just after a rare 3 inch snow fell. Two of the days we were there it snowed, and as the temperature warmed up, we found ourselves wading through mud. It was a fun trip, though I don’t envy Jesse and Brent having to deal with all of the mud on their trucks after we returned. If you want to see the rest of the pictures we took of our trip, you’ll need to attend the annual banquet at the end of the year.

3D News

We had over 80 shooters at our February 7 3D shoot, and over 90 shooters at our 3D during the Winter Games. Thanks go out to all that helped put these shoots on. The 3D shoots we host are needed so that we can pay our rent and utilities for the indoor range.

Wahoo News

Wahoo is almost here. This shoot is above and beyond the effort needed to put on our other shoots. We cut and haul several trailer loads of trees and branches; prepare stakes, signs, and numbers; purchase many new targets; load and haul targets, rebar, plywood, bow racks, pop-up hardware; plus more props and hardware.

We also have work parties to load and unload trailers; set up trees, bow racks, build elaborate target set-ups, set up targets and at the end of the shoot tear down and load everything to take to the indoor range.

For this shoot we ask that all members participate—even those that have non-working memberships. If you are available for any of our workparties or during the shoot—we need your help. The effort to set up and put this shoot on is way more than any of our other shoots. We need 7 people to run registration for each shooting line, at least that many to patrol the shooting lines with orange vests and our safety signs to keep the shooters safe, and people to run concessions each day.

All members are encouraged to attend our next club meeting as we line up trucks and trailers, and finalize our work-party plans. There is one more Wahoo meeting to be held on March 10, 7:00 at Lansky’s at HW 370 and 36th street in Bellevue - for a final check point meeting before everything starts happening.

As of one month before the shoot, there are almost 150 pre-registrations. I expect many more before the the shoot. Last year we had over 400 shooters, and based on attendance at other 3D shoots so far this year, we could go over the 500 mark this year.

If you know anyone that is planning to attend, encourage them to pre-register by calling Steve Williamson, or emailing me through our web site, or directly at hunterleep@cox.net. The maximum we can handle on a single line is 128, and I will be cutting off registration when we hit that number for each line. Last year we had one line that did fill up—so I encourage pre-registration to assure that you have a place on the line.

With that said, after we finish setting up on Friday the 19th, we allow members to register and shoot early so that they can be available to help with the shoot on Saturday and Sunday. The catch is that you need to be at Wahoo when we finish setting up in order to shoot. That time is usually about 1:30. We won’t let members shoot that arrive after we all start shooting, so that we can head home at a decent hour Friday afternoon as many of us will be back at Wahoo early on Saturday. If you will be shooting on Friday, you don’t need to pre-register.

Wahoo Food and Registration Help

WAkiye Rebarich is again coordinating the food committee. If you or your spouse can help with serving food, please contact Akiye at 345-7608. Only so many people can fit in the kitchen, so she needs to be careful that we don’t have too many for one shooting line and not enough for others.

We also need deserts for the shoot. If you can provide something (brownies, rice crispy treats, fudge, etc.) please do that. You can bring those items during the shoot, or on Friday during the workparty.

Registration is another special area where help is needed. We have it set up to run like an assembly line, with each person doing their own tasks. One person will look up names and write down target assignments on score cards, and another will write names on score cards and mark the cards with colored markers indicating the target types to be shoot. One person will also be needed to collect the money and hand the cards and door prize tickets to the archers. It needs to be organized, as we will have over 100 people going through the registration process in about one hour prior to each shooting line.

If you can help with registration below are the times I need help. Call me at 592-3856 with the times you will be available, or email me at hunterleep@cox.net. I do have a couple of people that said they can help at any time, so I’ll need to contact them a few days before the shoot to let them know when they are needed.

Here's when Registration help is needed
Saturday March 20: 7:30 am—9:15 am
Saturday March 20: 12:00 pm—2:15 pm
Sunday March 21: 6:30 am—8:15 am
Sunday March 21: 11:00 am—1:15 pm
Sunday March 21: 2:30—4:00 to collect and sort cards

Also, I will be there all day, both days to help with registration and answer questions, and Dave Holthouse will be there to handle entering names and scores into the computer.

Wahoo Workparty Dates and Times

Here is a list of the work party dates and times. Please be at as many of these as you can:

Wahoo Target Sponsorship

We also obtain money to defray the costs of targets and other expenses by selling target sponsorships. For $50, we will put some very nice signs beside a target saying ‘This Target Sponsored By:….). If you would like to sponsor a target or know someone that would like to sponsor one, please contact me for sponsorship receipts or pictures showing how the shoot is set up. Brent Simmerman is collecting the money and names of sponsors, so contact him when you do obtain a sponsorship. Brent’s number is 597-9497.

Newsletter Items

If you have a hunting picture or story, please send it to me, I’d like to put it in the newsletter. If you have an item for sale, send me the information to put in the newsletter as well.

Please email me anything you would like to add to the newsletter, or contact me for my mailing address. You can even give me your article at a club meeting.
