April Club Meeting
The April meeting was held on April 6. There were 18 members in attendance. We discussed how the Wahoo Shoot went, the upcoming Quest Center Shoot, and other key club items.

New Members

There were no new memberships voted in at the April meeting

Wahoo News:
Last year we had a record number of shooters at our Wahoo shoot, and this year we far exceeded that. There were 419 shooters at our Wahoo Shoot this year and it ran really well. Comments from shooters were very complimentary and they almost all included the statement, ‘and we’ll be back next year’. So lets gear up for an even bigger crowd next year.

Now it’s time for the thank you’s…. and there’s a lot.

First of all there’s all of the members that met over the past several month’s to plan the shoot. And that was no small task. Dick Sousa coordinated those meetings, kept us on track and as it turned out, all of those meetings led up to a very successful shoot.

The first real work-party was the one to cut trees for the shoot. We had at least 20 of us at that work-party and did we ever cut a lot of trees. We cut trees at 2-rivers, cut trees at a Christmas tree farm, and Scott Specht brought some trees he had access to. The work party was over in about 4 hours, but we really did a lot of work. A special thanks there to those that brought trailers. We had 5, and that really helped speed that work party up.

Next came the workparty to load trailers. Again, we had about 20 club members helping. That work party was over in about an hour. A special thanks to Mike Vandeman. Mike coordinated an inventory of targets, identifying what we needed to order, and what we needed to take out to Wahoo.

Then came the set up. That workparty started Thursday with several members spending the whole day Thursday before the shoot setting up plywood. Trees and Targets. We Wrapped up on Friday and ended up with the best presentation I have ever seen for an indoor 3D. I was impressed, as were all that shot.

During the shoot, many members helped throughout the shoot line judging, running the tower, giving out door prizes, and helping archers with questions on scoring and equipment. Thank you to all that helped here.

The food committee was again awesome. Thanks to those that brought deserts to the shoot, and thanks to Akiye for organizing the food and the food committee, and to everyone that worked on the food committee. For as many people that were served, the organization for that effort was great. Everything ran smooth and quickly.

I also want to thank all of those that helped with registration. We had a full crew for each shooting line and in spite of a few tense moments, got all of the archers through the registration process and ready to shoot very quickly. By making a good first impression on all of the archers coming to shoot, I think we put everyone in a good mood and helped set the stage for an enjoyable shoot for all.

Then, last but not least, thanks go out to all that helped clean-up. Again, we had Scott Specht with his big red truck helping to haul out the trees. Without Scott, clean-up would take for ever.

We also had a lot of club members helping toss trees, take apart bow racks, remove the plywood, carry targets, take down the tables and chairs, put back the railing around the arena.

We were running very close to the bottom of our savings at the end of last year, and with the success of this shoot, should be able to finish this year in the black.

We needed the help of all of our members for this shoot, and everyone came through. Many, many thanks. I am showing only a few of the pictures I took at the shoot in the newsletter. You will need to attend our annual banquet next year to see a video presentation of all of the pictures.

Ahamo Classic Shoot:

Now that Wahoo is over, it’s time to focus on our next event; The Ahamo Classic, that will be held at the Quest Center during the Nebraska Big Buck Classic. You may have seen advertising for that in the paper lately. It’s a pretty big deal, and will be a chance for us to put our club on display to the general public.

Bill Arledge has been doing a great job so far lining up plywood, netting, target butts, and fencing to surround the shooting area. Now he and Steve Doty are getting ready to run the shoot and set it up.

We can’t get into the Quest Center until the Thursday before the shoot, and we will need to be ready to haul our stuff in Thursday morning. All of the vendors for the event will be setting up around us, and we will only have a short time to pull trailers in and unload them.

We have trailers lined up, but we will need workers to help get them unloaded. If you are available Thursday morning, please come out and help. The first trailer is scheduled to arrive at about 10am to be unloaded.

Note that any parking fees you need to pay for this event, will be picked up by the club if you are there to help with one of our work parties. Just let Steve Williamson, Bill Arledge, or Steve Doty know and they will see that your fees are reimbursed by the club. Save us a few dollars though. We have some pre-paid parking passes you can pick up from Steve Doty between 6pm and 8pm at the indoor range on Thursday the 16th.

Set up will involve putting plywood up around the shooting area, putting up fencing poles and netting around the area, and setting up target butts, bow racks, and signs.

Once all is set up, we will need helpers throughout the shoot, and helpers to take everything out when it’s over. Again, Ahamo will reimburse parking for all of our workers at this event.

Helpers can pick-up passes at the Quest for free entrance, but we need your name to put it on your pass in advance. Contact Steve Doty or Bill Arledge if you want a pass reserved for you. This needs to be a firm commitment though, as we only have a certain number of passes. You can pick them up at the Show Office when you enter the Quest Center. Call Bill at 659-6960 if you can help so he can arrange a pass for you and will know when you will be there.

There are several shooting lines for this shoot, and two types of events. The target (Vegas Round) shoot, and Hunter (Animal Round) shoot will have shooting lines as follows:

Friday 4/17; 5pm Vegas, 7pm Hunter
Saturday 4/18; 10am, 2pm, 4pm Vegas, 12pm Hunter
Sunday 4/19; 10am Vegas, 12pm Hunter

If you are available to help on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; please contact Bill at 659-6960.

Other Club News:
We obtained new cardboard for our indoor range. Thanks to Mike Nickels for finding us a source. Thanks also to the members that unloaded it at the indoor range.

We will begin replacing our existing cardboard shortly, so watch for news on when we will be doing that, and when the range will be closed.

In other news, Steve Williamson is coordinating a Bowunter Education Class at the end of April. During the class, the indoor range will be closed to open shooting. It is currently scheduled for April 28 and 29 at the indoor range, and May 2 at the outdoor range. The indoor range will be closed from about 5pm to 9pm on the 28th and 29th for the class. If you are a Bowhunter Education instructor, or even if you’re not and would like to assist, contact Steve. If you would like to take the class, contact Game and Parks and ask about enrolling.

Also we have a need for helpers to hold an archery class at the indoor range for groups of kids from Offutt. We did this last year and were asked to run a program again this year. The dates are 6/8, 6/22, 7/6, 7/13, and 7/27 and will involve a commitment from 8:30 till noon on each of those days. If you can help there, let me know or call Steve Williamson at 597-6917.

Finally, note that May 17 will be our first outdoor 3D of the year. We are only holding 3 this year so we don’t overload our members too much with work parties. Watch for news on that shoot in next Month’s newsletter.
