Lost Month
A lot has happened in the last 2 months. Note first that there was no August newsletter - your newsletter editor was on vacation for 2 weeks. In addition the September newsletter is late because the September club meeting was held on the 14th.
Open House
Ahamo held another open house on August 29th. There was plenty of help at the workparty on the 28th and at the open house. Several club members helped out that week end and everything ran well. We had about 10 to 15 guests at our open house. Thank you to all that helped and a special thanks to Bill Arledge for setting it up and Dick Sousa for being the contact person listed on the flyers and in the newspaper.
Bowhunter Tune Up Day
The club held a Bowhunter tune up day on September 5. Roy Canterbury ran this and did a good job. Many hunters were at our range shooting Broadheads and tuning up equipment. Roy was even fletching arrows for some of the bowhunters.
3D News
Thanks went out to Mike Vandeman, John Terfone, and their wives for all the work they did this past year running the 3D shoots. It was a very successful season mainly due to the hard work by these and other members. Mike also thanked Dave Holthouse, and Jack and Dustin White for the use of their 4 wheelers at the shoots. Thanks also to Jack and Dustin for the use of their trailer during the season and for building the moving target we used at our shoots.
Mike said that we will be needing more targets as we prepare for our indoor 3D shoots.
Mike did an excellent job this past year, and will be passing on the coordination of our 3D’s to someone else for next year. If anyone has an interest in this position please contact Bill Arledge. The 3D coordinators do not pay dues while they hold that position. Mike mentioned at the meeting that it would be a great help if we would also create a position of registration coordinator for our shoots. If anyone has an interest in that position please con tact Bill on that also.
The State 3D was a large success. over 80 shooters registered for state or club awards. Scores of all shooters are on the last page of the newsletter.

Indoor Leagues are starting..
Indoor Leagues are starting.. Here is your chance to get ready for the new indoor tournament season and to keep in practice during hunting season. Leagues are scheduled to start on Tuesday September 22, 1998. Shooting will start at around 7:00.
Outdoor League results..
The outdoor leagues were held at Mike Stanner’s house and were a lot of fun. We decided to make it a money league where we drew for opponents each night and won back money that was paid at the end of the league. A list of those that shoot and their winnings follow. (If you have not been paid your winnings yet, please be at one of the upcoming club meetings.) The league made $112.00 for the club.
Lee Pereksta $12.25 Harry Thompson $7.75 Mike Stanner $5.25 Bill Rhoades $4.00 Eric Pollack $2.25 Rich Stone $2.00 Kit Secord $2.00 Mike Quick $1.50 Mary Lou Pereksta $1.00
Plans for the next Club Meeting
At our next Club meeting we will be holding a swap meet, so bring any of your old equipment you want to sell. It will also be a chance to buy equipment at bargain prices. We will also be auctioning off some of our shot up 3D targets. These make excellent broadhead targets.
In addition, we will have a speaker at our next meeting. Scott Momson is a Bowhunter Education instructor with a good knowledge of outdoor survival and first aid. He will be speaking on how not to get lost in the woods..
YMCA News
Bill Arledge purchased 3 bows and a half gross of arrows for the YMCA camp for about $180.00. We will be giving them to the YMCA to thank them for letting us use their property this past year.
Hunting Season News
Hunting Season is now here. At our last club meeting we decided to have a big buck contest again, and to make it a regular part of our big game awards every year. Please contact Ed Rebarich or Lee Pereksta when you get any deer this year so we can add you to the list of those that will receive deer awards. If you get a buck and want to enter it in the big buck contest bring your rack to a club meeting to be measured.
Ted Nugent
Ted Nugent will be in town in October and would like to speak to a group of fellow archers while he is here. Bill Arledge asked we could volunteer our range for that meeting. The club voted to give Bill the go ahead to make our range available. We don’t know for sure if this will happen or when it will be, so note that the range may be closed to open shooting one evening next month.
Shooters School update
Bill Arledge said there were two types of shooters schools we could host at our range. He recommended one offered by the NFAA and will be working to set that up sometime early next year. He said the current estimate is that the cost will be around $200.00 per student. The school can be held for 15 to 23 students. We will offer it to Club members first and then to non members if it does not fill up. Non club members will be charged a slightly higher price.
Bill Arledge and Bill Lewis presented a proposal to the club. They offered to hold special classes for competitive shooters to cover all aspects of shooting. Both are very active in competitive shooting and are extremely knowledgeable in equipment, shooting techniques, available equipment, and the mental aspects of the game. Bill said they would run the class for several weeks and would charge a yet to be determined fee (most of which would go to the club).
The classes would be offered to ‘serious’ competitors only that would be willing to put forth the effort to practice and improve, and that are serious about learning winning archery.
If you are interested in this, please contact Bill Arledge.
JOAD Start-up
We are again preparing to offer a Junior Olympic Archery Development program. This program is for anyone under the age of 18. There will be a minimal fee for each participant anticipated to be $2.00 for members and $3.00 for non members.
Joad will be starting the first Thursday in October at about 7:00. Last year there were a lot of participants and we hope it goes as well this year. Archers can bring their own equipment, but if they do not have any, several sets of bows and arrows will be on hand at the range.
This is an excellent opportunity to introduce your children to archery, or for children that have shot before to shoot with others. Encourage your child to bring friends.
The duration of the league will be discussed on the first night. If you would like to help with the league contact Bill Arledge (his phone number is on the front of the newsletter). If you will be bringing a child and can help during the program give Bill a call also.
Senior Shoot held at Kearney
There was a Senior shoot held in Kearney on August 20th. Two of our members won their division and are eligible to shoot in the National Senior Olympics to be held at Disney World. Congratulations to Bill Arledge and Mike Stanner for their fine shooting at this tournament. They both shoot very well for their age.

Club Shirts
The club shirts are now available. Several members have already picked theirs up. If you ordered one, or would like to buy one, Bill Arledge does have some available now. The price is pretty reasonable: $15.00 for a polo shirt, and $9.00 for a T-Shirt.
Lost...
Robie Valeika left a True Ball Release at the range early in September and when he returned the next night to look for it, it was gone. If anyone picked it up, please call Robie or contact me, so we can get it back to him.
Indoor Range Proposal
A proposal for the sharing of our indoor range with other clubs was discussed at the August Club meeting. Bill Lewis wrote up an initial proposal which was discussed, and a decision made to open up a dialog with other clubs to see if there was an interest in it.
There were a couple of reasons for the proposal. First of all, the rent for our range will be going up next year and we seem to be stretching our treasurery a little right now. We should be ok because our dues are due in January and we will again be hosting the Winter Games. However, we don’t seem to be building the treasury up to be able to handle emergencies.
Another reason for the proposal is to help expand our sport. Our range seems to be underutilized. We could easily handle another league or two and there always seems to be room for more people when we are practicing. If we could expand our leagues, and increase the income we could receive from additional members of the club (or the newly proposed association), then we would not have to put on so many 3D shoots or stretch the use of our old 3D targets so much, to help cover our rent.
Based on the recommendation to open up a dialog with other clubs, we had a meeting at our range on September 9th. Six members of our board met with three members of the Golden Arrow Club and three members from Potawattami.
At the meeting we discussed the proposal as openly as possible. A lot of points were brought up and it was decided that each of the clubs would discuss the proposal at their next meetings and that we would get back together for further discussion after our October meeting.
Please review the following points that were brought up and pass your comments on to a board member, or be at the October club meeting to discuss your thoughts. Remember, these were just points that were discussed - nothing is final and more discussion will take place before a final proposal can be brought back to the club. In addition, the clubs might not even be able to reach an agreement on sharing the indoor range.
Discussion points from the meeting to discuss the sharing of our indoor range:
-The basis of the initial proposal was to form an association for the express purpose of sharing the indoor range. The clubs would still keep their individual identities, but would be members of the same indoor range association and their outdoor programs would be each clubs own responsibility.
-The initial proposal was to determine a fee that each club would pay to the association each month based on the membership of each club. The fee would be determined based on a projection of the annual range expenses and proposed range income.
-Ahamo currently has 53 members, GA has 20, Potawattami has 25.
-The association board would have equal members on it from each club, and would settle all disputes that might come up.
-We proposed that that fee sufficient to more than cover the cost of the range be paid for 2 years and then when a ‘contingency fund’ is established we could modify the fee structure.
-GA dues are now $125, and they pay about $200 per month for their indoor range.
-Potawattami dues are now $30.00 of which $12.00 goes to their state association. They have no indoor range.
-We discussed allowing a $2.00 fee reduction for all shoots held by any of the 3 clubs if their members were members of the association.
-Indoor 3D’s would be shared between clubs with each club providing an equal number of targets for 3D shoots.
-We discussed the association receiving the proceeds of all shoots held at the indoor range. Potawattami had a problem with that - as they were looking at holding indoor shoots to help finance their range costs.
-Potawattami’s main objection seemed to be the increase in dues that would be necessary.
-GA’s main objection seemed to be the location, because so many of their members live fairly closer to their current range.
-GA and Potawattami both seemed positive about the proposal, and were going to present it at their next club meetings.
