Club Meeting highlights
The September meeting was attended by 8 members. We discussed the last 3D shoot, the River City Roundup shoot, a big buck contest for 1997, and voted in two new Club members.
New Members
Our newest club members are Nicholas Kovarik and Nathan Brown. Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.
New Ahamo Club Secretary
Christy Denton resigned as our Secretary because she had too much going on to give it her full attention. Thank you Christy, for the year and a half you worked as our Secretary, you will be missed.
Bill Rhoades volunteered to take over the duties of Secretary for the remainder of the year. Thank you Bill.

Outdoor Range News
The outdoor season has ended for our club for 1997. The final 3D shoot was a huge success with 140 archers participating throughout the 2 day shoot. The 3D committee did an outstanding job in 1997. Thank you Roy and the rest of the Committee for all your hard work this year.
Door Prize Donors
Thank you to the following businesses for donating prizes for our Bowhunter Rendezvous. Arrow Factory (Glenwood Iowa) Full Draw Archery West Oak Archery Guns Unlimited Woods and Waters Tackle Box Van Fleets Meat Processing
All of the targets were taken down at the last shoot and stored in the shed at the YMCA camp. All that remains is bringing the targets back to the indoor range.
We will need many new targets before our 1998 season and the cost will be pretty hefty. So be prepared for a large expense before the next outdoor season.
At the last club meeting we discussed what we could give the owners of the YMCA camp as a gift for letting us use their property this year. They had mentioned needing a shed for storing their archery equipment behind the target area we built for them, so we may do that next year.
Preparing for the Hunting Season
Many of our members are now concentrating on the Hunting Season. Some have also been able to obtain the new bonus tags, allowing two additional does in 1997. There should be plenty of Venison brought home by our members this year. Good luck to all hunters.
Our range was used for a Bowhunter Tune-Up day on September 6 and the public was invited. Several of our members were on hand to help out and it went very well. We helped the hunters tune up their equipment and set their sights with broadheads. Thanks to all who helped. It is important to do all we can to make sure that all archers that go afield are well prepared.
Bowhunter Education
Some of our members took part in a Bowhunter education class during the first week of September. Eight of our club's 3D targets were also used for the class. Seventeen people were certified with the game and parks at the class. Many thanks to Bill Lewis, Gary Brunberg, Dave Wise, Bill Arledge, and Lee Pereksta for putting on the class. In addition, Walt and Brenda Codney also helped teach.
Thanks also go out to Full Draw Archery. They let us use their facilities for the class and also let the students use a new Dart System bowhunting education video at no cost.
Indoor Range news
Indoor Leagues
We decided to begin an indoor league next Tuesday. Mark that day on your calendars; Tuesday, September 16, at 7:00. For all you hunters, why not shoot your hunting bows in a league this year. It will keep you shooting your hunting bow and will keep you in shape for when you get a shot the deer that may not show itself until November.
River City Roundup
Mike Stanner is coordinating the Archery Tournament for the River City Roundup. The shoot will be an American Round Tournament scheduled to be held on September 27 and 28 at Aksarben. Anyone that would like to help should call Mike. His phone number is on the first page of the newsletter. I'm sure he can use all of the help he can get.
If you are undecided if you want to register for the shoot, note that it will be a very good opportunity to showcase our sport.
Parking at the Indoor Range
If you shoot at the indoor range during week days, and are there during regular business hours, you should not park by the loading docks. The owner of the building uses that area for his business and it is important that we do as he asks.
An additional item to mention, is that the owner did see a car parked there one day last month, and went down to see who was in the range. He did not see anyone there, but after he left the range a young couple came out of the range without archery equipment. One of them said he was a member and it was ok for him to be there.
Note: The range is for archery and club functions only. Please use it for that purpose only. If anyone wants to use the range for any other purpose, discuss that purpose with a board member first.
Big Buck Contest
The Club will be holding a Big Buck contest again this year. For the rest of the year, please bring your racks down to the club meetings to be measured. The measurements will be 'unofficial' and we will not require a drying period.
Last year Gary Brunberg won with a very nice rack.
Whenever a Club Member gets a deer, he or she needs to notify Ed Rebarich. Ed keeps track of the names so that our members can receive a deer award at the end of the year. The first award for each member will be a nice plaque, and for each deer harvested after that, a plate will be awarded to put on the plaque.
