Indoor 3D Planned for Nov. 21
The first indoor 3D of this indoor season for our club will be held this month. The shoot will be held on Saturday the 21th. Registration will be from 8:00 till Noon for a continuous shooting line. Come out and shoot at this tournament. Note that the 21th is during rifle season. There will be a work party on Friday the 20th to set up the targets. Be at the indoor range at 6:00 PM to help set up. We could also use some help with food and registration during the Day on Saturday as well. If you will be shooting, bring down some desert items on Saturday.
Indoor 300 Planned for Nov. 22
That’s right - back to back tournaments. Take your pick 3D, Target, or both. The Target is our annual turkey shoot - so you can win your thanksgiving turkey at that tournament. Bring down some food for the Sunday shoot, and help with the concessions or registration if you can. The shooting lines will be at 9:00 and 12:00.
Indoor Leagues
Indoor leagues are still taking place on Tuesdays. Feel free to shoot along with the league for practice. There is a slight fee for shooting along with the league, but given the company and fun on Tuesday night’s it’s well worth it. Shooting starts at 7:00.
Possible 1999 work party changes
Bill Arledge brought up a potential change to workparty requirements for 1999. He proposed that we do away with the workparty requirements all together and concentrate on getting our membership numbers up. We would try this for one year and continue using the calling committee to ask all members to help at the workparties. Bill proposed that we try this for a year and reevaluate it at the end of the year. We will discuss this further and vote on it at our next meeting.
Hunting Season News
Hunting Season is now here. Please contact Ed Rebarich or Lee Pereksta when you get any deer this year so we can add you to the list of those that will receive deer awards. We also need to know if you have received a plaque before, so we know if you need a new plaque or only the plate that goes on it. Also, give me one of your deer pictures and I’ll put it in the newsletter. If you get a buck and want to enter it in the big buck contest bring your rack to a club meeting to be measured. Members that have harvested animals this year are listed below:
Successful 1998 Season Hunters Steve Murphy 6x6 elk Rich Chandler Antelope Mike Sonderman doe Chris Stokes doe John Gregory 4x4 (score 72 6/8) Lee Pereksta 3x4 (score 66 5/8) Bob Hacker 2x2 Roy Canterbury 4x4 Randy Benson 3x4 Bill Lewis 4x4 Dave Domnanish doe Dick Sousa 4x4 (score 146 5/8)
Correction
Bill Arledge pointed out that he did not buy the bows and arrows that were given to the YMCA as was reported last month. The club bought the equipment for the YMCA.
Ahamo Annual Banquet
Bill Rhoades is still looking for a place to hold the banquet in January. If you have any ideas for where to hold it, please contact Bill. We had discussed holding it at a social hall somewhere and having it catered but had not identified a place yet.
1999 Club Officers
Continue thinking about who you want for club officers for 1999. The ballot box will be put out soon at the indoor range for nominations. We welcome nominations for offices. Please check with who you want to nominate to be sure they want to run for the position you want to nominate them for.
JOAD
A report from Bill Arledge: The Joad league is in full swing now. We had our first qualification night on October 29th. The following individuals qualified for patches:
Brian Dyer Bowman and Junior Archer Scott Dyer Junior Bowman and Bowman Tony Dyer Junior Bowman Ashley Brunberg Bowman Samantha Fischer Qualified Archer (Longbow) Hailee Abegglen Qualified Archer, Yeoman, and Junior Bowman Kenny Fischer Qualified Archer, Yeoman, and Junior Bowman (Kenny also qualified at the same levels with a longbow)All of these young people are to be congratulated for their efforts.
Since we started the JOAD program there has been tremendous support from our club members. They have worked very hard with the kids to develop their skills in archery. To a person I would like to say thanks.
Our Instructors are: Bill Lewis, Mike Abegglen, Mike Dyer, Rich Stone, and Gary Brunberg.
We can still work with more kids. If you know of any young person 18 or younger who wants to learn Archery, just bring them down or have them call me to find out about the program.
Thanks also go to Phyllis Arledge for preparing Cookies, cider and cupcakes for the league.
Women's Only Night
It was proposed at the the last club meeting that we have a women's only night at the club. This will be discussed more at the next club meeting. The reason for the proposal is to get more women in the club shooting, and it might be fun for them to have their own night to shoot. If anyone has any thoughts on this, pass them on to Bill Arledge.
Outdoor Sportsman’s Show
Dave Hauge from the Golden Arrow club was at our last meeting discussing the Outdoor Sportsmans Show coming to Omaha in February. Dave said that Golden Arrow, Fremont, Potowattami, and the Traditional Archers are all supporting a booth. Ahamo will be supporting also, as well as several local Pro shops. Our pledge will be $200, and we will be helping staff the booth to display archery equipment and targets, and to publicize our club. There might also be a shooting area where people will be charged $1.00 to shoot 5 arrows.
The main reason for the booth will be to promote archery. There are a lot of people in the area that hunt but do not belong to any clubs. We will discuss the benefits of joining a club and shooting year round to keep in shape for hunting season.
IBO Scramble
Bill Lewis asked if the club would be interested in an IBO scramble. The scramble is shot at paper targets, on a specific weekend, with all participants faxing their scores to a central location. There will be many nice door prizes given away to participants.
The scramble will cost $20.00 per shooter, with $10.00 going to the IBO and the rest to the host Clubs. We voted to participate.
Corporate Sponsorships
Bill Arledge discussed obtaining Corporate sponsorships for our club. The idea being that sponsors would donate money to the club and would have their name recognized as corporate sponsors in club news, on scorecards, and at the range.
If we decide to pursue this, members will be asked to discuss the availability of corporate sponsorships with businesses they are familiar with. If anyone knows of a business that might be interested in this - ask them what they think of the idea and let Bill know their response.
Hunting Tips
Here’s a couple of tips from the Mississippi Bowhunter organization found on the internet.
- Ever carried a urine bottle? Lots of folks have. That question from one hunter netted this result. WHY? A seasoned truck driver and avid bow hunter relayed this to us. Over the road drivers drink lots of coffee. So, it's natural to have to STP every 30 miles. Here is the solution to bladder control. Gator Ade! Strange, but true. For some reason this stuff does not race its way to your bladder. Bring your water, too. Leave the soft drinks and coffee at home.
- Worried about scent? On yourself or that you put out. Professional dog handlers will tell you. The dryer it is, the less chance of a scent trail hanging around. Quite the opposite of most peoples' belief. To much TV, seeing that scent washed away. Don't worry so much about "your" scent being laid down in dry weather. Worry about having enough buck lure/deer attractant to last the day.
