Bill Arledge reported that the buffalo ordered for our club will not be done until June. That will make it available for our 3D in July, and the State 3D in August.
Ed Rebarich and Dan Hagedorn framed the shed at the outdoor range for the YMCA camp. At the May club meeting, Mike Abegglen volunteered to complete it at the May 9th workparty at the outdoor range.
JOAD Children's League News
This is the final note on JOAD until next fall. Bill Arledge thanked everyone that helped throughout the year. The program was a great success. Bill said that JOAD will start again in September.
Plans For Upcoming Club Meetings
June Meeting: Fun shoot after the meeting. If you attend the June meeting, bring your equipment. July Meeting: Someone from Game and Parks will be present to discuss game laws. August Meeting: Someone from United Sportsmen of America will discuss Hunters feeding the hungry. September Meeting: A duck calling demonstration by a champion duck caller.
Bowhunter Education News
The youth mentoring program requires that Mentors take the youth they mentor, hunting at least 5 times. Gary Brunberg reported that in many cases the youth hunters are really lacking in shooting skills. He asked Ahamo if we could help by providing mentors for archery skills only. The idea being that we would help tune equipment, teach basic form, and certify each youth at their effective accuracy range.
- If you would like to be a shooting skills mentor for youth hunters, please get in touch with Bill Arledge.
Gary Brunberg asked the club if we would also like to support an Adventure Camp for Kids. On June 6, there will be a program held at the Arrow Factory, 6 miles north of Glenwood Iowa, that will give 45 kids hands on experience in Archery, Fishing, and Air Rifles. The program is sponsored by the Arrow Factory and the United Sportsmen of America. Fishing equipment has already been donated to this program and Gary is looking for bows to borrow ( the arrow factory will be providing the arrows). Ahamo agreed to loan the bows we use in our JOAD program.
