May 5 Club Meeting News
Club Meeting highlights
The May meeting was attended by 13 members. We discussed the new outdoor range, the JOAD league, and the upcoming WLFA Bowhunter Defense 3D shoot. The incentive drawing was won by Lee Pereksta for $14.
New Members
There were no applications received this month, so no members were voted in at the club meeting.
Outdoor Range News
We Have a range. Many thanks to Kit Secord, Ed Rebarich, and Mike Stanner. Kit found the location and Ed and Mike followed up to get permission for us to use it.
We were given permission to use the YMCA camp at 245th and Q street. Note a few rules up front; we can only use the range for 3D shoots and specific club functions, and there will be no hunting allowed on the property.
The director of the YMCA camp said we could use the property at no cost to us this year if we would build an archery backstop for their campers to use. Some of our members already built the backstop and we are set for this year. Many thanks to Ed Rebarich, Dan Hegedorn, Bill Rhoades, Mike Stanner, Kit Secord, Bill Arledge, and Dave Holthouse for all your hard work.
There is still a lot of work needed to set up the 3D course. So please help out at any of the upcoming work parties to set up the range. Watch for one to take cardboard to the outdoor range.
The range can be found by turning South on 245th and Q(the road before crossing the Elkhorn River), then taking the first left for the range. The second left is for the YMCA camp.
JOAD Children's League
The Junior Olympic Archery Development league started April 17 and is going strong. 12 children attended the first few weeks and have been enjoying the league. The league will continue until the end of May, if you have any children that would like to attend. It is held on Thursdays at 6:30 P.M. There is no cost for club members and a $1.00 fee for non club members.
If you have any questions, please call Christie Denton at 402 944-7160 or Patty Pulsifer at 455-4462.
3D Committee news
The 3D Committee has requested that anyone attending shoots at other clubs, take along flyers for our shoots. Roy Cantebury said there is a box of flyers at the indoor range for that purpose.
Club Shirts:
Mike Stanner had someone that makes embroidered shirts set up a pattern for our Ahamo Logo. Mike and Bill Rhoades purchased shirts from the company that set the pattern up, and the shirts are really sharp. They are heavy weight collared shirts that you will see Mike and Bill wearing to tournaments from now on. Mike said they are called Health Knit golf shirts, and they look like they should last a long time.
If anyone would like one, give Mike a call. The shirts cost $30.00 and because of the quality I think are a better buy than the $10.00 T-shirts we've sold in the past.
Heartland Benefit Shoot
Ahamo purchased two targets to support the Heartland Benefit shoot. We've done this in the past and have participated again this year. The shoot was held on May 3 and 4, with proceeds going to support bowhunting defense organizations. We received the targets back after the shoot, so the only cost to us was wear and tear on the targets for one shoot.
Nebraska Traditional Archers Workshop
The Nebraska Traditional Archers asked if they could use our range for a workshop in July. The Board discussed the request and agreed to let them use our range on Saturday, July 26th. Ahamo will receive $50.00 to cover the cost of utilities and wear and tear on our cardboard. The traditional Archers will not be using our 3D targets, only the range.
Golden Opportunity to support Bowhunting
The Nebraska Bowhunters Association is sponsoring a WLFA Bowhunter Defense 3D shoot in conjunction with the IBO and McKenzie Targets. The shoot will be on May 30, 31 and June 1 and all proceeds to go to the WLFA to be used for Bowhunter Defense. Note that last year Bowhunting lost legislative issues in 6 of 8 states. It is important that we support this type of function to help protect the future of Bowhunting. The shoot will be at the 2 Rivers State Park. The cost will be $15.00 for one day, or $20.00 for the entire weekend. Children shoot free. Shooting times are Noon to 7 PM on the 30th, 8 AM until 7 PM on the 31st, and 8 AM until Noon on June 1st. This is a non-competitive shoot, with no scorekeeping or awards.
Ahamo was asked to support by having its members help during the shoot. There are 3 slots we were asked to fill:
5-30 (Fri) - 11:00 to 2:00 5-31 (Sat) - 8:00 to 10:30 5-31 (Sat) - 10:00 to 1:00At least 2 people are needed for each slot. If you can help, please call Gary Brunberg at 895-5458Gary asked me to add a personal note from him: " This is a very important shoot and one of 4 shoots across the country of this caliber, where all the proceeds go to the bowhunter defense fund. We need to get as many of our members as possible to help, and show Ahamo's support of bowhunting. We are encouraged to wear Ahamo shirts or hats and can set up a booth promoting Ahamo if we'd like."
Indoor League Results
The indoor 300 round leagues have finished and here are the Champions:
1st place: Mike Stanner Paige Permenter. 2nd place: Dick Sousa Lee Pereksta 3rd place: Ed Rebarich Bill RhoadesCongratulations to the champions, and thanks to everyone that participated in the league.
Outdoor Field League
The Golden Arrow club will be starting a field league on Thursday (May 13) at about 6:30. They just finished setting up their range and are starting it later than expected.
If anyone would like to participate in an outdoor Field League, we are invited to shoot with them. If you haven't shot a Field round before, the distances are 10 up to 80 yards at marked distances. Four arrows are shot at each of 14 different targets. Call Jeff Gunnels (592-1125) if you have any questions .
Directions to the Golden Arrow range are as follows: Take 680 to 133 (after Fort street exit) and turn left. Take 133 to hw 36 and turn right. Take 36 to 96th st and turn left. Take 96th to Pawnee and turn right. Take Pawnee to the gate at the bottom of the hill. The gate will be on your left. Park outside the gate if it's muddy.
Outdoor Target League
As of now we do not have plans for an outdoor target league - but don't lose faith. After we set up the backstop at the outdoor range there is a chance we may be able to hold one. the calling committee may be called to action if we do decide to have one. So stand by for future news.
