May 1 Club Meeting
Club Meeting Highlights
The May meeting was a short one. It started a little after 7:00 and was over before 8:00. We discussed the 3D shoots, Rich Stone’s plans to hold an American round shoot in Springfield, and the YMCA. Mike Vandeman won the incentive drawing for $15.
New Members
There were no new members voted in at the meeting.
Next Outdoor 3D
Our next outdoor 3D will be on May 21. The shoot will be the responsibility of team 2 - Check the team list later in the newsletter to see if you are on that team. Rich Chandler is the team leader for team 2.
Before the set up, Mike Vandeman and Bill Lewis said they would be walking through the range to see if the course can be shortened up a little so that there will be less walking required.
If you are on team 2, and you have a gas powered weed eater - please bring it out. There should be some grass needing cutting by the May shoot. The work party starts at 8:00 AM.
Club Champion
Our indoor club champion for 2000 is Bill Lewis. Congratulations Bill. We had 8 members shooting for the title and all had a good time. Bill’s name will be added to the plaque at the indoor range with our past club champions.
The results of the championship are as follows:
Bill Lewis 300 55x Mike Vandeman 300 46x Scott Bailey 299 50x Bill Rhoades 299 47x Kit Secord 299 46x Harry Thompson 299 39x Lee Pereksta 296 35x Ed Rebarich 287 22x
Indoor Range Note
If you use the indoor range, please leave the fans running and the heater off. The floor fans are there to keep the humidity down.
With Sympathy
This past week one of our former members, Elizabeth Faulkner, passed away. Elizabeth was once an active member of our club and served on the board of directors along with her husband Ron, who was our Club President. Our sympathies go out to Ron.
YMCA News
At our May Club meeting we voted to purchase 6 fiberglass bows and a half gross of wooden arrows for the YMCA to thank them for letting us use their camp for our 3D shoots again this year.
Springfield Shoot Planned
Rich Stone will be running a shoot for Springfield Days, on June 4th. See the notice later in this newsletter. The following is a note from Rich:
Tired of shooting 20 yards? 3d's fun if you don't mind taking three hours to shoot forty arrows? Try an American round. Or to be specific, Ahamo and Springfield days 600 round. Come out and help show the public what our sport is all about. Course of fire for those who have not tried this, is four ends of five arrows at sixty yards, four ends at fifty yards, and four ends at forty yards. More fun than a forty yard elk!
This is going to be a benefit shoot with part of the proceeds going to the Springfield Volunteer fire dept. This way I think I can get the area businesses to help with trophies. Ribbons will be given for second and third.
I'd like to make this an annual event, but the club needs your support to make it work. I'm not asking for a lot of help, just come out and shoot. Hit the IBO in Lincoln on Saturday and stop by Springfield on your way home to sight in. There will be many things going on in town Saturday including food, drink and the good old fashion street dance. Check it out.
Call me if you have any questions, comments or ideas. Rich (253-2210)
Outdoor American Round League
We’ve only had about 6 members shooting our outdoor league this year. We decided to make it a scratch league and shoot for a couple of dollars to the winner of each distance. So far it’s been a lot of fun. If you’d like to come out to shoot or just to see what it’s like - you’re very much welcome. Mike’s address is: 11222 Kentucky Road in Papillion. His phone is 592-3308.

Below are the current Work Party teams. Note the team you are on and be sure to help out at the shoots your team is responsible for.

Hunting Season News
If you haven’t kept on top of things, you may have missed the specifics on the 2000 hunting seasons. All past hunters were mailed some information on this, and it looks like the special tags for doe only will allow hunters to take up to 6 deer each this year. There are a number of special areas you can apply for a bonus tag on. Some of the special areas have bonus tags allowing 2 doe to be taken and you can apply for up to 2 bonus tags.
The bonus tags will be sold over the counter starting May 15. It does appear that there is a limit on the number of tags to be sold for each area, so it may be a good idea to get your bonus tags as soon as possible after the 15th.
Call Game and Parks if you have questions on this.
