March 6 Club Meeting
The March meeting was attended by 20 members. We discussed the indoor range rent, the fire exit alarm on the back door, workparties for the first outdoor 3D shoot, and obtaining club shirts and jackets. Dave Wise demonstrated a couple of neat tuning tricks, and Ashley Swinarski won the incentive drawing for $17.
New Members
There were two new members voted in at the meeting: Jim Chandler, and Scott Long. Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.
Outdoor 3D Season is Here
The first outdoor 3D is approaching. 3D’s are not just nice to have events for the club. Your Club needs them to earn enough money to keep the club solvent throughout the year. Please attend our shoots throughout the year and help with the workparties to set up and run them.
The first workparty is scheduled for April 1 (Saturday). We will be meeting at the indoor range to load the targets, and anticipate being at the outdoor range by 10:30. The outdoor range is located at the YMCA camp at 245th and Q Street. Take Q Street until just before you cross the Elkhorn River, and turn left towards the YMCA camp. The range is a about a quarter of a mile further and on your left.
2000 Winter Games
The winter games were a huge success. We had 139 shooters, and plenty of help. Thank you to all of the members that helped with the shoot. A special thanks to Bill Rhoades for stepping in to take over my responsibilities when I needed to go out of town. I also want to thank Mike Vandeman and his wife Shelly for all the work they did throughout the week-end.
Club Members to Thank
Thank you’s go out to Steve Murphy and Wayne Hale. They fixed the outside motion detector that had been out of order for quite a while. The light is now working properly. Thanks Steve and Wayne.
A special thanks to Ed Rebarich. Ed added another board to our bow racks so that the shorter bows will fit in them. Ed also adjusted the carpeting on the bow racks to go across the new boards. Thank you Ed.
Indoor Range Rent Items
Our rent for the indoor range is now $400 a month. It was reduced to $300 last year because our savings were extremely low and we asked the building owner if he could give us a break in our rent. It was very nice of him to give us that break for a year. Things are still not as good as they could be but our savings are in better shape than they were a year ago. We still need to watch expenses closely, support our club shoots, and work to increase our membership.
Membership count to date
As of this newsletter our club has 41 members. That’s down a bit from our year end membership, but is typical each year. Our membership should be increasing by a couple of members at each meeting throughout the year.
Changes at the Indoor Range
You might notice that the door at the back of the range has an Emergency Fire Exit sign on it. If you push the handle on that door, an alarm will go off. If that happens, please call a club officer. The alarm will not stop until turned off with a special key. Therefore; do not use that door unless there is an emergency.
Also, the stairs in the back room that lead up to the gutter company, have a security alarm at the top of the stairs. If anyone sets that alarm off the police will be called and there will be a $30.00 fine if it is not an emergency.
The alarm on our door will not contact the police, but is in place to keep people out of the back room except when we need to be there to get the 3D targets out. If you have any questions on the alarms, please contact a club officer.
Official Scoring of Antlers
The following was in the February 20th World Hearld.
Antlers from trophy animals killed either this year or in previous years will be scored during a workshop March 25 at the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium. Scoring will be done from 10 AM until 2 PM and can be scored for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s State citation, Pope and Young, Boon and Crocket or the Longhunter Society.
E-Mail and Web Page News
Please send me your Email address if you are not receiving club news over the internet. I picked up a few new addresses at the last club meeting, and also corrected one I had that was not correct.

Turkey Hunting
The following is from the Game and Parks Web Page:
Nebraska resident turkey hunting permits for both shotgun and archery hunters are $16.75, non-resident permits are $56. A current Nebraska Habitat Stamp is also required of every resident 16 years of age or older who hunts game species or takes furbearers in Nebraska. All nonresidents, regardless of age, must have a Habitat Stamp to hunt game species or to harvest furbearers. Habitat Stamps may be purchased for $10 from Game and Parks Commission offices and permit vendors across the state. During the spring shotgun and archery turkey hunting seasons hunters are allowed to take one male or bearded female turkey per permit and may obtain a total of two permits. Shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset.
Club Rules
Please note there is a club rule concerning non-members shooting at our indoor range. Non-members are welcome to shoot as the guest of a club member - but they can only shoot as a guest 3 times. After that, they are expected to join the club if they want to continue using our range.
Since leagues and tournaments are open to the public, the rule limiting guests to 3 visits to our range does not include leagues or tournaments. However, it does apply to past members of the club. If you have any questions on this rule, please discuss it with a club officer.
Wild Game Recipe
If anyone has a wild game recipe they would like to share with the club, please send it to me to put in the newsletter. The following is from the Game and Parks Wild Game cook book.
Leftover Turkey and Dressing Casserole: 3 cups cut-up turkey, cooked 5 to 6 cups unseasoned croutons 3 Tbl finely chopped onion 1/4 cup carrot, finely chopped 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped 1/2 cup butter or margarine 1/2 cup cream or evaporated milk 2 cups game stock or chicken broth 1 1/4 tsp poultry seasoning 3/4 tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepperGrease a 3-quart casserole and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine turkey and croutons and set aside. In a medium saucepan, combine remaining ingredients.
Cook over medium heat until butter melts, stirring occasionally. Pour the mixture over turkey and croutons. Toss lightly and place in casserole. Cover and cook for 30 minutes in a 350-degree oven. Raise temperature to 375 degrees, uncover the casserole and cook 10 more minutes.
Work Party Teams
The workparty teams have been set up. For now, we will have 2 teams. When our membership grows a little, we may be splitting the teams up further. If you are on a team, you are still invited to help at any of our workparties. However, please make every effort to come out and help when your team is responsible for a shoot.
