Open House for our Club
Mark your calendars and tell your friends. On June 27th we will be holding an open house to promote our range and our club. There will also be a work party on the 26th to rotate cardboard and clean the range. The work party will start at 7:00 - please come out and help.
We would like some people at the range shooting during the open house, as well as people willing to help tune equipment or help others shoot. We would also like some brownies, cookies, donuts, or other food items for members and guests to snack on during the open house. Please bring something down if you can.
The open house will be from 1:00 to 5:00. Please come out and help. If you have a club shirt or hat please wear it.
3D News
The next 3D tournament for our club will be on July 4 and 5. Registration will be from 8AM until 1PM on both days. Note that the shoot is on Saturday and Sunday. Because of that we need to hold workparties on Thursday and Friday of that week to get ready for the shoot.
Jack White built a moving turkey target that may be in use at the July 3D tournament. If it can be set up before the shoot, it should be a lot of fun for all.
3D Workparties
There will be 2 work parties for the upcoming 3D tournament. Please jot these dates down on your calendars. July 2 and July 3; 6:00 P.M. We need members to help set up the shoot so that we will be ready for the shooters at 8:00 on Saturday. If you have trimmers or saws don’t forget them when you come out; the range needs to be trimmed. We also need desserts on Saturday and Sunday.
We also need people to help sell food and sit at the registration desk. Please call Mike Vandeman at (402) 332-4625 if you can volunteer for a 2 or 3 hour block of time on Saturday or Sunday. Mike can’t do all the work himself....
CORNHUSKER STATE GAMES
The Cornhusker Games are approaching and there is a registration deadline. The Deadline is June 29th. If you plan on attending your registration needs to be mailed by that date (That means you too Kit). The cornhusker State Games include a 3D and an American Round target tournament. You can shoot in one or both of these events.
Plans For Upcoming Club Meetings
It was mentioned in the last newsletter that we would have someone from the Game and Parks commission at our July club meeting. That has changed, as the person to speak will now be at our August 6 meeting. Current plans are to have someone from United Sportsmen of America to discuss Hunters feeding the hungry at the August meeting also (Bill Arledge is trying to change that to the July meeting, so we might have a speaker in July).
Nebraska Senior Olympics
There will be a Senior Olympics Competition this year, held in Kearney. Archery is one of the Events, with three medals awarded for each of three divisions (Compound Fingers, Compound Release, and Recurve).
Depending on your score and place, you may qualify for the National Senior Olympics competition to be held at Walt Disney World in October of 1999.
The registration Deadline for this event is July 24th for the $15.00 fee, and August 12 for the $20.00 late registration fee. The event will include a 900 American Round to be shot on Sunday August 23rd at 9:00 AM at Kearney Senior High School.
There will be a poster on the board at the indoor range discussing the Senior Olympics, as well as some registration forms.
Indoor League Final Results
The Tuesday night indoor leagues are over, and will start up again in September. The league winners are as follows:
1st place - Kit Secord and Harry Thompson 2nd place - Dick Sousa and Rich Stone 3rd place - Bill Rhoades and Jack WhiteCongratulations to the league winners...
Outdoor American Round League
The Ahamo American Round league is being held on Tuesday night’s at Mike Stanner’s house. Only a couple of Club Members have been participating, so instead of a ‘true’ league format, we are shooting
as one person teams and drawing for opponents each week. We are also shooting for money instead of trophies. There are four points possible each week and each point won is worth 50 cents. If you would like to come out and shoot there is plenty of room.
Mike’s address is: 11222 Kentucky Road in Papillion. His phone is 592-3308.
Take Cedardale east, past 72nd to Kentucky Road and turn left.
Other Outdoor Leagues
The Golden Arrow club will be holding two outdoor leagues this summer. Ahamo members are welcome to shoot along with the Golden Arrow Members. The leagues will be at their outdoor range near Cunningham Lake. There will be an American Round League beginning on Thursday May 28th, and a Field Round League beginning Monday June 2.
Directions to the Golden Arrow range are as follows:
Take 680 to 133 (after Fort street exit) and turn left. Take 133 to hw 36 and turn right. Take 36 to 96th st and turn left. Take 96th to Pawnee and turn right. Take Pawnee to the gate at the bottom of the hill. The gate will be on your left.
