June 2 Club Meeting News
Club Meeting highlights
The June meeting was attended by 10 members. We discussed the outdoor range, a change to shooting fees for club members, the results of the JOAD league, an upcoming workparty to cut cardboard for the indoor range, and voted in one new member. Due to the limited number of attendees, we skipped the incentive drawing this month.
New Members
There was one application for membership received this month from our web page. Terry Koperski was voted in as a new member; welcome to the club Terry.
Outdoor Range News
We had 78 people at our first shoot at the new range. It was a lot of work setting the range up for this first shoot. A big Thank You to everyone that helped.
We did receive a call after the shoot from the director of the YMCA camp asking us to do a few things differently at the next shoot, which we will comply with. We were asked to not use paint on the trees, to remove all tape and markers from the trails, and to not leave any targets out or in piles on the range.
We were also thanked for the backstop we built for the YMCA camp. It was more than expected and the YMCA camp was very pleased. The director of the camp did ask if we had any members that would be able to meet with her staff to show them how to teach archery. If you can help out, please give Mike Stanner or Ed Rebarch a call.
I would also like to add a special thanks to everyone that helped build the backstop and carry out and put the cardboard in it. It got us off to a very good start at the new range.
The range can be found by turning South on 245th and Q(the road before crossing the Elkhorn River), then taking the first left for the range. The second left is for the YMCA camp.
Shooting Fee$ for Members Reduced
The board decided to reduce the shooting fees for club members by 20%. We decided that it didn't seem right charging the same fees for club members as non members. The fees at our shoots for members will be reduced from $10.00 to $8.00 for adults, from $5.00 to $4.00 for children and from $30.00 to $24.00 for families.
Please bring your membership card to our shoots just in case you need to verify your membership.
Indoor Range Workparty
Note this date and come help out at an indoor range workparty; Tuesday, June 17 6:30 P.M. We will be cutting and stacking cardboard at the indoor range. If you have been to the indoor range lately you may have noticed the stacks of cardboard laying around. Several of our members were needed to carry in the cardboard and now we need to finish the job. If you can help out, it will add a couple of hours to your required work party commitment, and help to replace the backstop at your indoor range. Please note the date and time before you put this newsletter away, and plan on helping out.

It was a great statement for our club, and we got a lot of good exposure. A big Thank You to everyone that helped.
Proceeds from the shoot went to the WLFA to be used for Bowhunter Defense.
Outdoor Field
The Golden Arrow club has finished its outdoor Field League and is preparing to shoot an American Round League.
Outdoor Target League
At the last club meeting we decided that we would not be able to set up an American Round this year. The Golden Arrow Club has invited us to shoot with them again. Their American Round League is starting on June 12, at 6:30. Even if you do not want to Join the League, you can shoot along for practice. With the Cornhusker State Games coming up, it is a good opportunity to check your settings and get ready for the Games.
Directions to the Golden Arrow range are as follows:
- Take 680 to 133 (after Fort street exit) and turn left.
- Take 133 to hw 36 and turn right.
- Take 36 to 96th st and turn left.
- Take 96th to Pawnee and turn right.
- Take Pawnee to the gate at the bottom of the hill.
- The gate will be on your left. Park outside the gate if it's muddy.
Cornhusker State Games
Note that June 30th is the deadline for registration for the State Games. There will be both an American Round and a 3D shoot in the games this year. There is no late registration for the games, so don't miss the deadline.
Editorial on Membership
At the June club meeting we announced that the board decided that Club members will be charged less than non-members at club shoots. Adult members will pay $8.00, and their children will pay $4.00. The fee for families is also reduced, from $30.00 to $24.00, for members. The decision to offer reduced fees to members came out of a lengthy discussion of the benefits of being a club member.
What are the benefits of membership in the Ahamo Archery Club?
We offer 24 hour access to the indoor range, a $1.00 discount at leagues, free shooting for children in the JOAD league, a monthly newsletter, and the camaraderie of other members. Members are always willing to work with others to offer tips on shooting and equipment. We have a paper tuner, a bow press, and bow scale. There are always plenty of targets to shoot at, and as of June, members will be charged less at our tournaments than non-members.
At our board meeting we also discussed comments received by a board member, from a member that felt we were too quick to offer free memberships to non-members for the use of equipment or special talents needed by our club. We often do this when something we need cannot be obtained elsewhere, and will cost more to rent or purchase than a club membership. By doing this, some members feel that it does not appear to be totally fair, because of all the time and talents volunteered by members over the past year to build our indoor range, when those that provided the help did not receive the same benefit as non members.
The board discussed this issue and we honestly could not come up with a good answer. We thought that offering memberships at appropriate times actually saves the club money. The membership is only for the remainder of a membership year and the new member may want to pay for a membership in the next year.
We could offer free memberships to existing members, and we may offer them to members in the future. During the past two years we did not do this because there were so many members that contributed to our club, that the number of free memberships could have left us with insufficient money in our treasury to keep solvent. Do not think that the club does not appreciate the work provided by our members. If we didn't thank you enough for all of your work for the club we sincerely apologize.
A concern of the board is that if our membership disagrees with our actions then we may loose members.
The board has a responsibility to our members and we always try to make our decisions with the best interests of our club members in mind. If anyone has any problems with anything in the club, please bring it to the attention of a board member. Your issues will be discussed, and if you wish to have your comments confidential they will be held in confidence. Our club exists for our members and it's purpose is to allow those that enjoy the sport of archery to be able to participate in that sport with others that also enjoy the sport.
Please, bring any concerns regarding our club to the attention of a board member. Attend club meetings, and be vocal concerning anything you disagree with. If there are changes you want to see and those changes are not approved at a club meeting, then you need to recognize that the decision went to the majority. You can disagree with the decision made, but you need to recognize that it is a fair decision. If the club needs changes, then please help us change it.
