June Club Meeting

There were 9 members at the June meeting. We talked about range maintenance, the updated club constitution, and club finances, the pop-up targets, and the upcoming 3D shoot.

Club Constitution:

Thanks go out to the club members that worked for several weeks updating the club constitution. The goal was to update it to represent our club today. There were many sections in the prior constitution that no longer made sense and needed to be changed.

The constitution is being mailed to members, and also emailed to those with email addresses. Club members are asked to review the updated constitution and if anything looks like it needs to be changed, either communicate that to a board member, or be at the July meeting to discuss. The Constitution will be brought up at that meeting and voted on by members present.

Once approved, it will be signed by the President and Vice President and will become the rules that we live by.

Range Maintenance:

At the last club meeting, several of us did a little sweeping and cleaning up to make our range a little more presentable. There was a lot of trash laying around and pieces of foam by the targets from people shooting broadheads and target arrows into the foam targets.

A lot of the mess could have been avoided if only club members would pick up after themselves.

Please use a little common sense when you use the range. If you are drinking pop or water, throw away your bottles and cans. If you install some new gadget on your bow at the range, take the time to carry the packaging to the trash can. If you use the paper tuner and have scrap paper from it, throw it away. Also, if you are shooting at the foam targets, sweep up your mess when you are done. There are brooms and dust pans in the kitchen area whenever you need them.

Treat the range as you would your own home. Remember, others will be using the range after you leave. There may also be members bringing down prospective new members to show them our facilities.

Club Finances:

If you have been to one of our last couple of 3D shoots, you probably noticed a lot of activity. We had 103 shooters at our May shoot, and 110 at the June shoot. Our shoot revenue is finally putting our club in the black. If our final two shoots and the poker shoots that Rick Krystof is planning all go well, we will be starting 2006 off a lot better than we did this year.

3D News:

Our set-up time and tear down time has gone very well at the last two 3D shoots. Congratulations and thanks go out to Steve Murphy for functioning as our ‘unofficial’ 3D coordinator and making things run so smoothly.

What has been nice is the many positive comments about how the range is set up, and how well everything is run.

Many thanks to everyone that has been helping with our shoots. At the last shoot, Dave Holthouse was there helping with his arm in a sling. John Terfone ran the food concessions, Marty Edwards and his son were there Saturday with his 4 wheeler, and I had plenty of help from Lance Beyer and Nick Tramp at registration. Steve Murphy, of course did an excellent job coordinating everything.

I won’t mention any other names (except Brent, Mark, Jake, Joel, John, Scott, Steve, Bill, Bill, Rick, Rich, Ed, and Dick), because I’ll probably leave someone out. But thanks to all that have helped at the last couple of shoots. I also want to thank Steve Williamson for working registration with me at the May shoot, and Rick Krystof for selling food at the April and May shoots, and of course Ed for the new and improved trophies that everyone gives great comments on when they see them.

I challenge all members to come out and shoot, and to help if you can, at our next shoot. It’s a lot of fun. Remember also, that we allow members to register and shoot after setup on Saturday. For those of us that have done that, it’s real nice to be able to shoot on a range that’s not crowded. Plus it gives members that can’t make it out on Sunday a chance to shoot. It only takes 2 hours or less to set up the range so everyone should have plenty of energy to shoot after set-up.

Newsletter Items:

If you are a club member and have an item for sale, send me the information to put in the newsletter.

I would also like to get some hunting, archery, or tuning tips from members. If you have a story or article to submit, I really would welcome that, and I’m sure our members would enjoy reading them. Please email me anything you would like to add to the newsletter, or contact me for my snail mail address. You can even give me your article at a club meeting. My Email address is: hunterlee@MSN.com

Hunting News:

Just a couple of items to mention here. First a brief story about a club member that went Turkey hunting a couple of weeks ago. He harvested a turkey that died of ‘natural’ causes. How do you do that? First, you spend an entire weekend looking for birds and have nothing but bad luck. Then you see it go from bad to worse on your final day as a couple of turkeys head your way and watch them take off running as fast as they can with a coyote chasing them. Finally you hear a tremendous fight between a large turkey and the Coyote followed by silence. Then, you investigate the scene of the fight and chase off the coyote before he has a chance to eat his kill.

If you want to hear a much better version of this story, just talk to Steve Williamson.

Another hunting note: Watch for news on submitting you applications for hunting in the Gifford area next Month. It looks like July will be when Game and Parks will start accepting applications for that special hunting area.
