FAST Shoot
The FAST shoot is over. All of the clubs and groups that helped to put it on are to be commended. A lot of work was put in setting up, running, and tearing down the shoot. The clubs that supported the shoot were Ahamo, Golden Arrow, Woods and Waters, Linclon Prairie Bowmen and Platte Valley Archers of Columbus and Orion of Blair.
A special thanks also goes out the Nebraska Game and parks for all of their help. They mowed the ranges, provided shuttle bus service, and picnic tables, and were on hand to help throughout the weekend.
Six complete ranges were set up for tournament shooting and an additional range for practice. The shoot was configured to handle up to 1,000 shooters. There was plenty of food, multiple grills and plenty of people to man them. There was shuttle bus service to and from the ranges, plenty of water and pop on all ranges, and 2 way radios on all ranges to handle communications. There were also plenty of people to work through the entire weekend.
The people from the FAST organization seemed very organized to run the shoot, and handled everything related to the tournament very professionally. All of the set up was geared to making sure everyone shooting had a good time. I didn’t hear any complaints about the shoot from participants.
The only problem was that only 130 people showed up to shoot. This caused a lot of discussion throughout the shoot about how much better it would have been with more shooters. The general consensus was that advertising for the shoot was almost non-existent. There was a 3line article in the World Herald a week before the shoot, and no advertising in magazines. Someone said they heard a mention of the shoot on the radio a couple of weeks ago, but that was it. Those that showed up heard about the shoot at pro shops and clubs.
As a worker throughout the weekend I saw a lot of discontent and complaints from the clubs that worked the shoot. All of those clubs count on their 3D shoots to support their clubs throughout the year - and this shoot didn’t make very much money for them. The biggest benefit from the shoot was to show that the clubs could work very well together towards a common goal.
If at all possible, I would like to see a shoot like this put on again next year. It would be very possible to learn from the mistakes this year to make a major tournament a Huge success. If the clubs would work together, advertise well, provide a large enough payback to the shooters, identify an appropriate organization to share the profits with, and do this as a multi-club function only; then I firmly believe we could have a shoot that would draw shooters from all over to participate.
Bill Lewis showed us that this tournament did work as the Cabala's shoot in prior years. With enough advanced planning, I think we could have a Midwest 3D Extravaganza that would draw people from all over.
Outdoor Leagues
Outdoor leagues are still going on at Mike Stanners house. We are shooting in a format where we draw for who we shoot against each week and shoot for a payback of our shooting fees. Come on out and shoot along, It’s a lot of fun. Mike’s address is: 11222 Kentucky Road in Papillion. His phone is 592-3308.
July 1st 3D
Our next 3D will be on June 1st. We decided at the last June club meeting to have both work party teams support this shoot. There are a lot of people that need to help to fulfill their work party commitments. Please come on out to help set up the shoot. We decided to set up on Saturday June 30th at 8:00 am. If you have a weed eater, please bring it out. There should be a lot of trimming to do before the shoot. We will also be needing people to man the registration table on Sunday. If you can help with registration, please contact Jim Chandler or Tom Riddle to let them know the timeframe you would be available on Sunday.
YMCA News
The YMCA is still in need of help with two of their Camps this year. One will be from June 25th to June 29th, and the other from July 9 to July 13th. If you can help supervise kids from 12:00 to 1:30 each day during the camp, please contact Jim Chandler. We will be setting up the targets the day before each week long camp starts, so watch for the work party request or ask Jim when the set ups will be for the camp. We will only be putting up about 10 targets to shoot at.

Hunting Season News
If you are planning on hunting this year, now is the time to visit your land owners to confirm you can still hunt on their land. There are some new rules this year regarding bonus tags and there could be a lot of people looking for places to hunt this year in the bonus areas. You might also want to stop by Game and Parks and discuss how the new rules are configured.
Now is also the time you should start getting your equipment in shape and getting into a practice routine. I know I need to start getting more serious about my practice after shooting in FAST shoot this past weekend. You can never get too much practice.

Below is a list of all workparty team members. All are being asked to help with the July 1 shoot.

From the Nebraska Game and Parks Web Site:
LINCOLN, Neb. -- It’s spring and already people involved in outdoor activities are swatting skeeters, scratching their bites, and removing ticks from their bodies, their clothing and their pets.
In response to an increasing number of requests, the Game and Parks Commission is again providing a recipe for an easy to concoct mosquito/tick repellent that has become known as “Greg’s Goo.” The stuff was originally publicized by Information Officer Greg Wagner of the Commission’s Omaha office who says it is effective on both humans and pets:
Greg’s Goo 2 cups water 1 cup white vinegar 1 cup Avon Skin-So-Soft Bath Oil 1 tablespoon Eucalyptus Oil Shake in a spray bottle and let settle before spraying.
