Happy New Year
Welcome to the Year 2000. The Ahamo Archery club has been in existence now since 1968. That’s 32 years supporting the sport of Archery. We’ve had a lot of members over the years and there’s a lot of stories wrapped up in this club. In the early years we were located in the Roseland Center on 24th street, we moved a couple of times inluding the basement of the Athletic bowl, and our present location. One of our founding members was Alex Cubrich, who passed away 2 years ago. Some of the members that have been in the club for more than 20 years include Ed Rebarich, Dan Hagedorn, Bill Rhoades, Harry Thompson, Kit and Jackie Secord, and myself.
We’ve all seen archery go through a lot of changes over the years. The biggest being the introduction of the compound bow, the release, and the introduction of 3D targets. We also migrated from target to hunting as the primary source of income for the club. In the early years, we had one Animal shoot a year, and that was the Ahamo Safari shoot. To do that, we made layers of cardboard for free standing targets and put paper targets on bails. In 1968 our dues were only $25.00 per year. Now at $96.00 per year, they are still a bargain. If our membership had gone up along with inflation, I’m sure we’d be paying well over $100 per year by now.
I’d like to thank all of the long time members who have given so much to the club over the years. Some of these long time members are still the most active today. We also have many new members that are very active in the club and are doing a lot to keep it going. Thank you Bill, Dave, Mike, Dustin, Jack, John, Robbie, Bob, and anyone else I may have forgotten.
When you think about renewing your membership for 2000. Remember that you’re not only obtaining a key to an indoor range, you are a part of a long heritage of club members that are keeping archery alive for our children and for their children.

January Club Meeting
The January club meeting was our annual banquet, 40 members attended and it was a fun evening. The new officers for 2000 were elected and thank you’s were given to the outgoing officers.
A special thanks to Bill Arledge for all you did for the club and for Archery during the last two years as Club President. Thank you also to Dave Holthouse for doing such an excellent Job as Treasurer for the past several years and for being our treasurer again for the year 2000. Thanks also go out to Dave Wise, our Secretary for the past 2 years and again for the year 2000, and to Dustin for your help as Vice President last year and for agreeing to coordinate the 3D shoots in 2000. I also want to thank Dick Sousa for coordinating the calling committee for the past 2 years.
Awards for 1999
The annual Banquet included a short business meeting, and a lot of awards. Awards were given for game harvested, service to the club for 1999, and as an incentive drawing with club members names added to the drawing based on work parties attended.
The big game awards were based on the archery harvested game shown on the first page of the newsletter. Congratulations to those that harvested game. If you did not receive your award, please contact Ed Rebarich.
Service awards were given to all members that attended more workparties than the average. There were also two very nice plaques given as outstanding service awards. Dave Holthouse and Lee Pereksta were each given one of these. Both Dave and Lee spend many many hours each month in their club positions.
Finally, there were 5 $30.00 drawings based on workparties attended. The $30.00 is meant to off-set the cost of hunting licenses for the next year. Congratulations to: John Terfone, Mike Vandemann, Brian Whitacre, Dick Glaseman, and Dave Wise. Thank you also to all of the other club members that helped at our work parties throughout the year.
2000 Dues
Your dues were due in January. As of the club banquet on the 8th, the lock was changed at the indoor range. Everyone rejoining needs to turn in your old key to receive a new one. If you will not be rejoining, please turn in your key.
As in prior years, the dues are due in January and delinquent in April. Dues are $96.00 per year if paid before April and an additional $10.00 will be assessed as of the April meeting. Everyone that was a member in 1999, will need to pay the annual fee of $96.00 if they join anytime in 2000. Partial years dues are only for new members.
Please contact Dave Holthouse for any questions on dues or to make arrangements to pay your dues and obtain a new key.
Congratulations to Rich Chandler and his hunting partner Aaron Pererson. Aaron is a Neighbor that hunted with Rich this year. Aaron was in the tree with Rich when Rich shot his doe. He helped Rich field dress the deer and drag it out.
2000 Winter Games
The winter games are on February 5th and 6th. If you expect to shoot in them Pre-Registration is required. You must send your registration in by the 26th of January. Registration Booklets can be picked up at sporting goods stores, or you can use the web (see www. cornhuskerstategames.com). You can also call 1-800-30-games for information.
Winter Games Work Party There will be a work party to set up for the winter games on Friday February 4, at 7:00. Your Newsletter editor has volunteered to coordinate the 3D for the winter games at our club. This is a good way to show off our club to others and it is important that the shoot go well. We will need help throughout the week-end.
As of now the club committee for the state games includes Dave Holthouse, Ed Rebarich, Dick Glaseman, Greg Thomas, Mike Vandeman, and John Terfone. These will be coordinators for specific parts of the shoot and will need plenty of help.
The best thing about this tournament is that all registration is in advance, and the Winter Games provides all of the awards. The club is responsible for setting up the range, running the lines, checking a list to be sure shooters have pre-registered, and delivering the scores to Woods and Waters. Please think about helping at this shoot - it’s not hard work, and it’s fun seeing and talking to all of the participants during the shoot.
We also need desert items to sell. Please bring something down Friday night, Saturday, or Sunday.
Member Commitments for 2000
A special meeting was held in December to discuss adding a work-party commitment for 2000. The members attending brought up several alternatives and finally approved the policy that will be in place this year.
There will be a requirement that members attend 3 work-parties of which two must be outdoor work parities, for a minimum of 12 hours. In addition, members will be assigned to ‘teams’ that will be the responsibility of a team captain. The calling committee will be done away with this year. Teams will be responsible for specific shoots or tasks, and the team captain will contact his or her team for support.
If members cannot make it to work-parties, they can contact other club members to trade work-parties with.
If commitments are not met, an amount will be assessed on to next year’s dues. If no workparties are attended, members will pay the dues that were previously required for non-working memberships ($168.00). The board discussed this further and decided that we will make allowances for members that are physically unable to make their commitments, or cannot make their commitments due to job requirements. If you have questions, please bring them to the attention of a board member.
