Club Meeting highlights
The February meeting was attended by 23 members. It was the first regular meeting with the new officers. We voted in 5 new members, discussed changes to the meeting format, Bill Arledge’s plans for the club in 1998, the calling committee, the upcoming Cornhusker Games, and a new approach to running 3D shoots. Sally Cady won the incentive drawing for $23.00.
New Members
New members voted in at the February meeting were: Richard Brown, Dave & Sally Hartmann, Dan & Sally Cady, John White, and Dustin White. - Welcome to the Club.
Last Chance to Renew Your Dues

If you have any questions about paying your dues and getting your new key, please call Dave Holthouse(291-0211). If you will not be rejoining, please turn in your key.

Club Shirts
Bill Arledge brought some catalogues from Drake Distributing to the club meeting. Members were asked to select the shirts they liked best so we could decide which to select for the club. See Bill if you want to see what is available.
JOAD Children's League
The Junior Olympic Archery Development League started in January and is being held each Thursday night. About 20 kids are participating in the league. It is really neat to see all those young archers shooting together in our range. Patty Pulsifer, Bill Arledge, and Dave Wise are running the league and several other club members are helping them. Thank you to all that are helping and participating in this league.
There is still room for more to join; and the league is for both members and non-members. If your children and their friends would like to join, just stop down on a Thursday night at 6:30.
Calling Committee Changes
Dick Sousa will be running the Calling Committee this year. Many thanks to Gary Brunberg for being in charge of the committee for the past 2 years. Gary was very conscientious and the committee was run very well.
Dick asked for volunteers at the club meeting and 9 people volunteered to be on the committee. There is still room for more, so if you would like to help (and get credit for 4 hours of workparties by being a member of the committee), give Dick a call at 592-8045.
Comments From The Club President
As the new president of the Ahamo Archery Club I would like to take this opportunity to outline some of my goals for the coming year.
First, I feel we all need to be more involved with the club. This can be through work parties, leagues, meetings, shoots or any other activity. We have an excellent facility, lets use it.
I will be calling members for their input on ways we can make the Ahamo Archery Club even better than it currently is. The best way this can be done is to provide the best and most interesting archery activities to everyone. I know this will require a lot of work on my part and yours, but, it can and must be done to enhance the growth of the club and the sport we all enjoy.
Some ideas I have are to keep the regular meetings short and to the point. Discuss matters we can act on and for those we cannot, appoint committees to research all available information and to provide the club with recommendations. Therefor, if you have anything you would like the club to consider please give that information to one of the Board members.
We are currently scheduling mini-seminars on archery and hunting in general, to be held immediately after the club meetings. We are also planning on having fun nights both after meetings and other times. Further information will be forthcoming.
Also I would like to see Ahamo become very involved with the community in teaching archery and providing archery activities to non-club members.
We have already started with our JOAD program. This program is open to the public and will provide both instruction and fun to the kids. The KIDS 3-D shoot that Roy Canterbury started is another excellent program that we have and is continuing to grow.
Last but not least, our 3-D shoots provide a significant amount of funds needed to keep the club going. It is the responsibility of all members to help put these shoots on. If you can donate a couple of hours for each shoot, that help will be greatly appreciated. If you can help please let Mike Vandeman or any of the board members know what areas you would like to help in, and what time is best for you.
Thanks, Bill
3D Committee News
Roy Canterbury decided to no longer run our 3D shoots. Thank you Roy for all of the time you have given the club for the past year.
Mike Vandeman has volunteered to take over the responsibility of coordinating our 3D shoots. Mike met with the board to discuss running the shoots, and we are going to make some changes that will hopefully make our shoots easier and more fun to run.
Mike will be making some changes to the way work parties are run to allow the set up go much smoother.
We will also be changing the way we use members to run the shoots. Members will be asked to volunteer for blocks of time during the shoots, and will not be expected to spend the entire day at the range. If you would like to volunteer for a 1 or 2 hour block of time get in touch with Mike. We need people to sell food, take registration, and run the lines. Husband and wife teams to run food and registration would be very nice.
We hope that we can build a list of people that can help run our shoots, so that it will be easy to schedule each 3D shoot. My wife and I will be volunteering to run food and registration and several others at the club meeting said they would be available as well.
Cornhusker State Games
The Cornhusker State Games will be on February 14 and 15. The registration deadline was January 28. Bill Rhoades is the tournament director for this tournament. There are a number of club members scheduled to work throughout the shoot, but help is still needed for set-up and tear down. Please be at the range on Friday, February 13 at 7:00 to help set up. Tear down will be on Sunday at 3:00 or 4:00. Check with Bill during the shoot for a more definite time.
Bowhunter Education
A Bowhunter Education class is being planned for February 23, 26, and 28. Walt Codney will be running it, and Lee Pereksta will be one of the instructors. The class will be held at the Base Lake for the first 2 days and at Schram Park on the 3rd day. If the class is not yet full, you can sign up by calling Game and Parks at 332-3901
Bowhunters Mentor Program
Gary Brunberg called Bill Arledge to ask about our club supporting the Bowhunters Education Mentor program. He said he would like members to help young hunters by helping them tune up their equipment and giving them instructions. Those at the meeting agreed that it would be a good thing for the club to participate in. - We hope to have more information by the next meeting.
Membership Committee
Bill Arledge asked for volunteers to be a part of a membership committee. The purpose of the committee is to brainstorm ideas for increasing our membership and to present those ideas to the Board. Bill Rhoades, Bill Lewis, and Robie Valeika volunteered to be on that committee. If you have any ideas, or would like to be on that committee give one of the committee members a call.
Work Party Being Planned
The club needs to rotate the cardboard at the indoor range. Look for more information in the near future. If we do it before the next meeting, the calling committee will be contacting members to ask for help.
Demonstration Planned
Bill Arledge said he has someone lined up to give a turkey calling demonstration at the next club meeting. Plan on being at that meeting to see it.
There may also be other demonstrations or seminars at future meetings.
