February Club Meeting

The February meeting was held on February 4. There were 15 members in attendance. We discussed Wahoo, the Winter Games, a Game and Parks request for funds to update our indoor range backstops, and a couple of other things. We also voted in two new memberships.

2008 Memberships:

If you haven't paid your dues for 2008, you have until the March meeting to do that or this is your last newsletter. We had quite a few members rejoin this year, and a couple that elected not to rejoin. Something to note, if you joined as a new member last year, your dues were paid in full last year and your membership for this year is pro-rated depending on when you joined. If you joined in January, your dues are $120 this year; if February they are $110; etc. (assuming you have the regular working membership). Check with Brent if you have any questions on your dues.

Membership entitles members to discounts at all of our club shoots, a key to the indoor range, camaraderie with other members, and a chance to participate in some great work parties with a other club members.

We also have a pretty good end of year banquet that members are invited to participate in.

Wahoo Shoot News:

As we get closer to our Wahoo shoot, please make plans to help out at that shoot. We need the help of all of our members to make that shoot a success. Wahoo is the biggest shoot we have all year long, and we need the support of all of our members to make it a success. The shoot has a pretty good reputation in the archery community, and we expect to draw over 300 archers this year.

If you would like to attend one of our Wahoo planning meetings, all members are invited. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday February 27 at Lansky's in Bellevue (36th street just north of Highway 370). The meeting starts at 7:00. Most people are there at 6:30 to order something to eat before we meet. You can also attend just for the meeting if you'd like.

Registration help needed:

I am running registration again this year, and like last year will need plenty of help. You don't need to be an expert on Classes or Archery to help with registration. I have it pretty will organized, provide cheat sheets, and will be there for all of the shooting lines to help if there are questions or problems. There are 2 shooting lines each day, and archers are asked to be at the range for registration an hour early; so here's the times I need Registration help:

Saturday, March 15th:
Line 1 - 7:30 to 9:15
Line 2 - 12:00 to 2:15

Sunday, March 16th:
Line 1 - 6:30 to 8:15
Line 2 - 11:00 to 1:15
End of shoot help collecting cards - 2:30 to 4:00
Four people are needed for each line and three are needed at the end of the shoot to collect and sort cards.

For each of the lines, 3 people write names on cards and write in the target assignments (using a target availability cheat sheet), and one person collects money after the cards are filled in. If you, your spouse, or children (old enough to collect and count money) are available for any of the time slots needed, please contact me to let me know when you will be helping (Email hunterleep@cox.net, or call me (Lee 592-3856).

Wahoo Food Help Needed:

Akiye Rebarich is organizing the food for our shoot again this year. If any of the ladies in the club would like to help, please contact Akiye. Her phone number is 345-7608. You can also contact her by email at AREBARI@cs.com.

Tree Cutting Work Party:

A big part of the Wahoo Shoot is the hunting atmosphere we create. The week-end before the shoot we have a workparty to cut trees. It¢¯¿½¯¿½s a good chance to get outside after being cooped up all winter and get a little exercise. We cut quite a few trees to be staked up around the range, and it makes the shoot look really neat.

If you can make it to that workparty, it will be on March 8, and will be held rain or shine. We will be cutting trees no matter what the weather is. If you have a chain saw please bring it. Otherwise just bring your muscle, we will need a lot of that.

We have a location that Steve Williamson found for us this year that should work out great. We haven't set a time or meeting place yet, we will probably be deciding that at the next Wahoo meeting.

Winter Archery Festival:

Thanks to all of those that helped at the Winter Archery Festival 3D at our range. It went really well. We had almost 70 people at the shoot.

Next 3D:

Our next 3D will be on February 17 at the indoor range. There is a work party to set up on the 16th at 1:00.

If you will not be able to shoot on Sunday, you may be able to do that on Saturday after set-up. So bring your bow if you would like to shoot.

Registration on Sunday is from 8am to noon.

Joad News:

Note that Joad is going strong. Thanks again to Bill Arledge for running it. Joad is held at our indoor range every Thursday at 6:30 pm. It is for all children up to age 18. They can use their own equipment, or can use bows and arrows that will be at the range for them to shoot.

Joad is an opportunity for children to obtain excellent instruction on the proper techniques of shooting, to teach them the basics of proper shooting.

Archery Instructor Certification:

Bill Arledge will be running an instructor training class on Saturday April 19 at our indoor range. Note that the range will be closed to open shooting while the class is going on. If you would like to become a certified instructor, contact Bill and reserve a spot. The cost is $25 - which covers the cost of the training materials you will receive. Bill's number is 402 393-5371 (home), or 402 659-6960 (work).

Other Club News:

A couple of other things discussed at the last club meeting: Steve Williamson has submitted forms to Game and Parks for a Grant to help us replace our back-stops. If this goes through, we will need to open the range on a regular basis (once a month maybe) to the public. This could be a great membership building tool.

Also, we have been discussing holding a National Archery School Program (NASP) shoot during our Wahoo Shoot next year in another building at the Fairgrounds. Game and Parks would run that, and we would just need to provide the facility and help set up.
