Also, please let me know if you do not have a plaque. We will be preparing plates only, unless you let me know that you do not have a plaque.

Hunting Stories:

I received the following note from Ryan Jardine:

I shot a big buck on November 2. It was a 4x4, it dressed out at 293 lbs. When I took it to the processor it was the biggest deer that they processed in the past three years. I shot it in the evening at twelve yards, it was quartering away, I made a good shot, it ran thirty yards and fell! I’m very happy.

Here’s a story from me:

My season hit a peak on November 20th. It was during the rifle season, when Giffords is open for bow only. I spooked a nice buck and a doe near my stand as I walked in at about 2:00 in the afternoon. I walked past my stand and kind of followed them for a while then walked back to my stand and got into it. I was hoping the deer might think I was leaving and would come back later.

I saw a couple of doe during the afternoon, then at 5:00 I heard a noise and turned slowly to see a very nice buck walking in on my right and below me. It looked a lot like the one I chased earlier. I slowly turned to face the tree, and watched as he stood broadside for a while behind some brush. Then he slowly walked out and gave me a clean 15 yard shot. I hit him really good and watched as he ran about 30 yards behind my tree then stopped and crashed to the ground. It was pretty exciting. The buck weighed about 160 lbs., had a 17 inch inside spread and 21 inch main beams. I think it will just miss the Pope and Young minimum score, but I’m still extremely happy. The picture is above.

Now for the rest of the story; I call this one:

Nightmare at Stoysich

I dropped my deer off at Stoysich on Sunday and went back to pick up my hide and the horns on Tuesday. After I waited for a while, the girl I talked to motioned for me to go to the back room. They had forgot to tag my horns. I was told I needed to go through a couple of shopping carts full of antlers to find mine. They weren’t there, and I was told to go to the back room to check some left on the counter. Mine was there. Feeling relieved, I took the horns and hide and went home. The hide was frozen. When It thawed out the next day I opened it up - I found a small gun shot hide. I called to complain, and Ken Stoysich told me he was sorry, but the girl that checked mine in didn’t tag the hide or horns, even though it was written on the sheet I filled out when dropping the deer off. I was very disappointed in Stoysich's, and am undecided if I will go there again. A word of warning - if you want your horns or hide back from Stoysich’s don’t leave until you see them put a tag on them.

2000 Dues:

Your dues are due in January. As of the club banquet on the 8th, the lock will be changed at the indoor range. Everyone rejoining needs to turn in your old key to receive a new one. We retool the keys and change the locks each year. If you will not be rejoining, please turn in your key. As in prior years, the dues are due in January and delinquent in April (you will need to re-pay the $10.00 initiation fee in April along with the $96.00 annual dues).

Target News

We have an indoor 300 shoot on December 19th. Rich Stone is running it, and will be changing the format for the awards. It’s a Turkey Shoot, and Rich is planning on structuring it so that every 4th shooter wins a turkey. Come on down and see how it works.

Note that dessert type items will be more than welcome. Bring something down when you come to shoot or watch.

Special Meeting Planned

At the December meeting we discussed adding a work party commitment for 2000. We decided to hold a special meeting to resolve what would work best for the Club. All members are invited to attend. If you have any ideas for getting more club members to support at 3D’s and other work parties - or would like to attend to vote on the recommendations; please attend. The meeting is planned for Monday, December 20th at 7:00.

2000 Winter Games

The winter games will be on February 5th and 6th. The best thing about this tournament is that all registration is in advance, and the Winter Games provides all of the awards. The club is responsible for setting up the range, running the lines, checking a list to be sure shooters have pre-registered, and delivering the scores to Woods and Waters. Please think about helping at this shoot - it’s not hard work, and it’s fun seeing and talking to all of the participants during the shoot. Please let me know if you would like to help. I’d like to get a list of volunteers that I can contact as the shoot gets closer. As you can guess, I volunteered to coordinate the shoot this year. I am counting on the 3D committee to set it up, and am starting a list of helpers I can contact when the shoot gets closer.

Calling Committee Coordinator wanted

Dick Sousa has been the Calling Committee coordinator for the past 2 years, and asked if someone would like to take that position from him for 2000. If you are interested, please let me know. You just need to keep a list of your committee members to contact when information needs to get out to the club members. If you have a computer and Email it is not that hard to do. Let me know.... Dick, thank you for doing this for the past 2 years, you did an excellent job.
