Other Hunting News
Congratulations to Gary Brunberg's daughter Ashley. At 12 years old she is not yet able to pull back a 40 pound bow; but used a rifle to harvest two deer on the opening day of rifle season. She harvested a doe and a buck. Gary's wife Vivian also shot a buck and a doe during rifle season. With those 4 deer and the two that Gary shot; that's a lot of venison. Gary reported that several thousand pounds of venison is expected to be donated to hunters for the hungry this year. If anyone has venison to spare, don't forget the option of donating your meat.
Big Buck Contest
There are a few more entries in the big buck contest. Thank you to all those that have brought your racks to the club meetings. Please call Lee Pereksta (592-3856) if you shoot a deer you would like measured before the January meeting. The names and 'unofficial' scores follow:
1. Steve Murphy 133 0/8 2. Dick Glaseman 120 5/8 3. Bill Lewis 96 4/8 4. Dave Wearne 94 4/8 5. Roy Canterbury 38 1/8
Ahamo Tournament
Ahamo held a sanctioned 300 round tournament on Sunday November 23rd. Many thanks to Don and Patty Pulsifer for running the Tournament. There were 31 shooters and our profit was $150.00. Another tournament is planned for December 14. Please register to participate in this shoot and support your club.
Other News
Someone tried to force open the doors to the elevators at the indoor range and ripped some of the bolts from the wall. Please treat our range as you would your own home. There is no excuse for doing that type of damage to our range. Please leave the furnace on at the indoor range. It needs to be left on all the time to keep the range at a comfortable temperature. The Nebraska Traditional Archers have asked to use our range for a workshop in March. We agreed at our club meeting that it would be OK, with the board to work out the details.
JOAD Children's League
The Junior Olympic Archery Development League is still planned to start in January. Patty Pulsifer, Bill Arledge, and Dave Wise will be running it. Contact Patty if you have any questions.
Voting in New Members
Voting in New Members was discussed at the club meeting. We have had instances where prospective members were not able to make it to club meetings. The membership agreed that the board could accept new members prior to the club meeting, with the application to be read in at the club meeting even if the new member is not present. We will only do this if the prospective member cannot make it to the club meeting.
End of Year Activities
The annual banquet will be at Mr C's on January 16. Coctails will be at 6:30 and dinner at 7:00. The choices are:
Party Fillet - $18.90 5 pc Jumbo Shrimp - $16.15 Grilled Chicken Breast - $12.60Call Bill Rhoades (553-4255) or Lee Pereksta (592-3856) to make your reservation. Look for a ballot box at the indoor range to nominate new officers for next year. Please check with those you will be nominating to be sure they want to run for office.
Special Hunt Planned
Nebraska is planning a special hunt for Big Horned Sheep in 1998. The hunt will be in the Fort Robinson area and will only have two permits sold. One will be by auction for out of state hunters, and the other will be for Nebraska hunters only. The application for Nebraska hunters will be issued after accepting applications from July through the end of August with a $20.00 non-refundable application fee. One name will be drawn for the hunt, that will include an outfitter, lodging, horses, and food. Watch for more information on this hunt from Game and Parks.
Bowhunter Instructor Training
A bowhunter instructor training class is being planned for January 24 (Sat.) at the Aksarben Aquarium. If you would like to be an instructor, please call the aquarium at 332-4204 to register.
