December Club Meeting
There were 10 members at the December meeting. We discussed Club finances, the annual banquet, and the Wahoo shoot.
New members:
There were no new members voted in at the club meeting.
Club Finances:
If we do not get any income between now and January, we will not be able to pay our January rent. This may not be a problem, since dues are payable at the January Banquet. One issue though, The banquet is the 15th, and our rent is due before that. As a result, members are encouraged to attend the January meeting (January 3rd), and to pay their dues at that time. Read on...
Dues are increasing:
Don’t let this scare you. Our dues have been the same for about 10 years. Almost everything you can imagine has gone up in the last 10 years. We wrestled with this a little at the club meeting, but in the end decided that this needs to happen.
With the cost of rent and utilities, we have been slowly eating away at our Treasury all year long. Our leagues and shoots have added to the treasury, but not as much as we have taken out.
At the current time our working membership is $96.00 per year, and our non-working membership is $168.00 per year. That works out to $8.00 per month and $14.00 per month. We decided to increase both of these $2.00 per month.
One of the things we discussed when deciding to to this is the cost of a commercial range. Ranges in town charge $6.00 per hour. This can cost $12.00 just to shoot a 300 round. Shooting 10 of these per year would pay for your dues.
One of the things I like about being a member is the convenience of shooting almost whenever I want. One time I noticed my string was almost broken the night before going hunting. I headed to the range, put on a spare string using the club’s bow press, tuned my bow, and was able to hunt in the morning.
Our dues are now $120.00 per year for our working membership, and $192.00 for the non working membership. Read on...
Dues Structure Change:
One of the things also discussed at the club meeting was the way we pro-rate our dues. New members pay partial dues depending on the number of months left in a year, and a full years dues the following year. To encourage members to keep their membership the second year - starting in 2005, new members will pay full dues the year they join, and pro-rated dues the second year.
This means that whenever new members join, they will pay a full year’s dues. For the working membership, a new member joining in July will pay $120.00. Then when dues are payable in January, the new member will pay the pro-rated dues of $60.00 for the second year.
The reason for this is that too many people have been joining for a partial year, and not re-joining the next year. We are hoping that new members will be more fully committed to our club when they join and pay a full year’s dues, and will be more apt to rejoin in year two because of the pro-rated structure.
If you have any questions on this - please let me know, or you can be at the January club meeting to discuss this further. Read on....
Club Officer Dues:
One of the benefits of being a primary club officer (President, vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor), is that your dues are forgiven while you are in office. This is because of the amount of work in those positions, and the fact that officers attend almost all club meetings. We are not going to make this mandatory... but for 2005, officers are being asked to pay half dues to help get our treasury back on stable ground. Hopefully, this will only be for 2005. I for one am more than willing to do this. Doing the newsletter is a lot of work each month, but I don’t want to see our club in financial difficulties.
January Meeting:
As stated earlier in the newsletter, there will be a January 3rd club meeting. Members are encouraged to attend and to pay their 2005 dues.
Note that the lock to the indoor range will be changed on the 3rd. You will need to pay your dues and turn in your key to get a new one.
As a final note on dues, Mike Stanner brought this up at our Wahoo shoot meeting and I said I would put it in the newsletter. If any members would like to help us get the treasury up a little to help us get into the black a little quicker, it is possible to pay for two years of dues this year and not need to pay your dues for 2006.
Annual Club Banquet:
Our annual banquet will be Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Angies Restaurant. Plan to get there at about 6:00 PM, and dinner will be served at about 6:30. After dinner we will be giving out awards and have a short meeting.
Angies Restaurant is located at 1010 Pacific St, Omaha phone 341-8800
Food choices and prices are: Prime Rib-regular cut - $25.00 Club Steak - $18.00 Baked Chicken - $15.00 To make your reservations, call Ed Rebarich at 345-7608.The club banquet is a great forum for showing off your deer pictures, sharing hunting stories, discussing the past year’s shoots, or discussing families with other club members. Spouses are very welcome to attend the banquet and many do attend. Hope to see you there, it’s always a fun evening.
We will also be voting for our club officers at the Banquet.
Please call in your reservations now - we need to call them in to Angies a week before the banquet.
Compressor Donated:
Steve Williamson has donated a compressor to the club for our pop-up targets. Steve is to be thanked, not only for this generous gift, but for all of his help throughout 2004, at our shoots. Steve brought the pop-up targets out to each shoot last year, coordinated setting them up, and ran most of the pop-up tournaments. Thank you Steve.
Leagues:
The current indoor league will be finished in December and a new league will be starting on January 4.
If you would like to participate in this league, just be at the indoor range before 7:00 on that Tuesday, or let someone know that will be there to add your name to the list of league members. Leagues are a lot of fun, and with hunting season ending before then it will be a good chance to keep your shooting form in shape.
Wahoo Shoot:
The Wahoo shoot’s first meeting was held on December 13th. Fourteen of our members met at Lansky’s to go over last year’s notes and to plan the changes for this year’s shoot to make it even better.
So far we have an overall coordinator who will run our Wahoo meetings (Thanks Dick Sousa), a publicity coordinator (Thanks Steve Williamson and also thanks Rick Krystof for volunteering to work with Steve), Set-up Coordinators (Thanks Steve Murphy and Bill Lewis). Also, John Terfone will be checking on Scorecards, Bill Lewis will confirm our sponsorship with Canfields, plus we had several other follow-ups and great ideas discussed.
The next meeting will be held on January 10 (Monday) at Lansky's on L street again. Hope to see you there.
Deer Season News:
The list of successful hunters is growing. Several of our members have done well so far this year. The list follows, with an asterisk by the names that will need plaques this year. If you need a plaque and your name doesn’t have an asterisk, please let me know. If there is an asterisk by your name and you don’t need a plaque, please let me know that as well. If your name is not on the list and it should be, call me also, at 592-3856.

Big Buck Contest:
So far there are two entries in the big buck contest. Steve Murphy is in the lead with a very nice 5x5. Steve’s deer measured 136 4/8. Dick Sousa also had his deer measured and it was a respectable 115 4/8. If anyone else wants their deer measured for our big buck contest - just bring your rack to the January 3 club meeting. If you cannot make that meeting, please call me to arrange a time when we can get together and measure your deer.
Club Officers for 2005:
We now have people to run for most of our officer positions. I think the secretaries position is still open, and if someone would like to take over the newsletter position - that would be fine.
Be at the January 15th Banquet to cast your vote.
