July/Aug Club Meetings
There were 8 members at the July meeting. We discussed a list of several items to do before the August 1 shoot, upcoming meetings to set the shoot schedule for next year. There were no new members voted in.
There were 10 members at the August meeting. We discussed potential shoot dates for 2005, publicity for our shoots, working member requirements, and what we need to do to prepare for the upcoming 2 day shoot. There was one new member voted in.
New members:
The newest member of the club is Steve Moody. Welcome to the Ahamo Archery Club.
Next Club Meeting:
Please note the next club meeting will be on July 12. This is because the first Monday of the month is on a holiday.
Outdoor Leagues:
The outdoor leagues are winding down. Just a few more weeks and it will be time to start thinking about indoor season. We have been having a lot of fun shooting at Mike Stanner's house. Many thanks to Mike for running the Tuesday leagues this year.
August 1 3D:
The weather was perfect, and the turn out was great. We had 125 shooters for the 3D and 23 for the pop-up shoot. Thanks go out to all that helped with food, registration, the pop-ups and set up and tear down.
Next 3D Shoot:
Help Needed:
The next 3D shoot is a 2 day shoot. We will be setting up on Friday to be ready for shooting Saturday Morning. Plenty of help will be needed all weekend long. Please note the following dates and times, and help where-ever you can.
Friday August 27: Set up will start at 5 pm. The targets need to be set-up (some are left out all the time, some need to be carried out and set-up). Tents need to be put up, pop-upâs need to be set up, Shooting stakes and direction plates need to be put out.
Saturday August 28: Help is needed to run registration, serve food, run the pop-ups, and police the range.
Sunday August 29: Help is needed just like Saturday. We will also need plenty of help when tearing down. All of the targets need to be brought in and trucks and trailers are needed to load them into.
Monday August 30: Trailers will be taken to the indoor range and we will be unloading all of the targets and equipment. The time for this will be finalized Sunday when we complete loading the trailers.
Bow-Hunter Ed Class:
Ahamo will be hosting a Bow-Hunter Education class the first week of September. Nick Tramp will be the lead instructor for this class. So far, Lee Pereksta and Bill Lewis will be teaching along with Nick and John Terfone will be a helper at the class. To register, use the Game and Parks web page, or call Game and Parks at 332-4543.
The class is scheduled for September 6 and 7 (6 to 9pm), and September 11 (8am to 1pm). Note that the 6th is labor day. The class will be at our indoor range the 6th and 7th, and at Schram park on Saturday the 11th.
Indoor Range closed 9/6 and 9/7:
To accommodate the Bowhunter Education class, the indoor range will be closed from 5 pm to 9 pm on September 6th and 7th. There will be 20 students and instructors using the entire range.
Hunting Season:
The 2004 hunting season is fast approaching. Now is the time to start getting your gear together. Check your safety belts, stands, steps, boots, camouflage, binoculars, flashlights, and donât forget to check your bow, arrows, and broadheads.
Hopefully, you have a place to hunt and have been doing your pre-season scouting.
There are some things you need to note this year: Game and Parks has changed the bonus areas a little. Some are now single tag bonus areas, and some are still two tag bonus areas. I found that the Area-6 location I had hunted for the past several years has now changed to Area-21. It also includes Bellevue, as well as Union Nebraska, and in fact goes all the way to Nebraska City. You might want to study the Game and Parks hunting area booklet a little before you buy your tags this year.
Another change to note, is that the Gifford area will not be open to everyone that wants to hunt it. There is an application period, and 200 people will be selected to hunt it in 2004.
2005 Shoot Schedule
We discussed scheduling our shoots for 2005 at the last club meeting. Tom Saunders volunteered to take our dates to the meeting where the dates are set. John Terfone may be attending this meeting also. We will be requesting the same weekends that we had this year.
These dates include: Jan 8-9, Jan 23, Feb 13 for Indoor 3Dâs; Mar 12-13 for the Wahoo 3D; May 15, June 12, July 31, Aug 27-28 for outdoor 3D shoots.
There is also a possibility we will be requesting to host the State Indoor 300 round in 2005. More discussion is needed before we request to host that shoot.
Additional 2004 Shoot:
We are planning to hold an indoor 3D during the second weekend of Rifle season this year. Indoor 3D shoots are pretty easy to set up and run, and this one will give archers a chance to check out their sight settings before the season starts up again.

Other News:
If you missed the last club meeting, you missed a lively discussion between members. We again opened discussion on work party requirements and dues requirements. We also discussed publicity for our shoots and a the possibility of having a board member in charge of publicity. It was also mentioned that we should be sending our shoot schedule to the Nebraska Bowhunters Association to publish in their magazine.
If you have any ideas for changing our dues structure or work-party requirements, please discuss them with a club member or bring your ideas to the next Club meeting. Ideas discussed at the last meeting included new members paying full dues when they join, instead of pro-rating dues - then pro-rate the dues the following year. We also discussed being more strict with the work-party requirements and charging more for the âpro-ratedâ dues the next year if the work party requirement is not met. Iâm sure there will be a lot more discussion before any changes are made. If you have any ideas, please bring them up.
