April 7 Club Meeting News
Club Meeting highlights
The April meeting was attended by 20 members. We discussed the status of the outdoor range, an upcoming JOAD league, A tournament being planned for River City Roundup, and voted in two new members. The incentive drawing was won by Bill Rhoades for $17.
New Members
Our newest members are Greg and Mary McAdoo, and Mike and Peggy Dyer: Welcome to the Club....
Desserts Still Wanted
Our 3D tournaments and target tournaments still need desserts. If you would like to help out, please drop off Brownies, Cupcakes, Pies, or anything you would like to bake at our shoots. The next tournaments are scheduled for April 12, April 13, and May 10th and 11th.
JOAD Children's League
A Junior Olympic Archery Development league will start Thursday April 17 at 6:30 PM at the indoor range. This program is for anyone under the age of 18. There will be no cost for club members to shoot, and a 1 dollar shooting fee for non members.
There will be an optional fee of fifteen dollars to become an NAA member through JOAD. NAA members receive a monthly newsletter and a patch, and can win patches and medals for shooting in the league. Shooters are not required to join the NAA.
Archers can bring their own equipment, but if they do not have any, ten sets of bows and arrows will be on hand at the range.
This is an excellent opportunity to introduce your children to archery, or for children that have shot before to shoot with others. Encourage your child to bring friends.
The league is for six weeks and will be run by four of our club members. If you have any questions, please call Christie Denton at 402 944-7160 or Patty Pulsifer at 455-4462.
3D Committee news
There are two more indoor 3D tournaments planned for this year. Please plan on helping or shooting in those shoots. We have not yet found an outdoor range and are still looking. If anyone has any possible locations, please give Ed Rebarich or Mike Stanner a call. We may be canceling our outdoor 3D shoots, but we will hold off until a month before each shoot, just in case we find a range.
Outdoor range Update: Ed has a new line on a possible location. As of this newsletter it looks very promising. Please continue looking for a permanent location, as this one may be only for our 3D shoots.
Golden Spike Tournament
Mike has been discussing an Outdoor Tournament to be held during River City Roundup, with the Nights of Aksarben and with Union Pacific. We may be able to get some financial backing to obtain some Outdoor target mats as well as a lot of free publicity. The tournament is being planned to be held at Aksarben late in September. Union Pacific will provide some plated spikes for awards for this shoot. More information will be made available over the next few months.
Members attending tournaments
Nebraska State Indoor at Kearney: Congratulations to Kit Secord and Bill Arledge. Kit won the Adult Male Freestyle division and Bill won the Bowhunter Freestyle Seniors division.
NFAA National Indoor at Tulsa Oklahoma: Several of our members attended the Nationals. Congratulations to Scott Bailey for Shooting a 600 to take 15th place in the Freestyle division. Other members attending were Don Pulsifer, Patty Pulsifer, Kit Secord, Robbie Valeika, Mike Stanner, and Bill Rhoades.
WLFA Bowhunter Defense 3D Shoot
The Nebraska Bowhunters Association is sponsoring a WLFA Bowhunter Defense 3D shoot in conjunction with the IBO and McKenzie Targets. The shoot will be on May 30, 31 and June 1 and all proceeds to go to the WLFA to be used for Bowhunter Defense. Note that last year Bowhunting lost legislative issues in 6 of 8 states. It is important that we support this type of function to help protect the future of Bowhunting. The shoot will be at the 2 Rivers State Park. The cost will be $15.00 for one day, or $20.00 for the entire weekend. Shooting times are Noon to 7 PM on the 30th, 8 AM until 7 PM on the 31st, and 8 AM until Noon on June 1st.
April Target Tournament
There is an indoor 300 round tournament planned for April 13. The lines are at 9:00 AM and 12:00. You can call Jackie Secord (332-4389) or Pat Pulsifer (455-4462) to register. If you don't want to shoot, come on out and watch (and please bring a dessert).
Web Page News
The Ahamo Web Page has generated two new members to date. We also receive about one or two requests for information over the Internet each week. If you get a chance to view our web page you can see club information as well as the current and past newsletters. You can also have your friends use it to fill out a club application.
Outdoor Field League
If anyone would like to participate in an outdoor Field League, The Golden Arrow Club will be starting one soon. They are planning a league that will run for about 6 weeks beginning the 3rd or 4th week of April. The league will be on Thursday nights. If you haven't shot a Field round before, the distances are 10 up to 80 yards at marked distances. Four arrows are shot at each of 14 different targets. Call Jeff Gunnels if you have any questions about the league (592-1125).
Newsletter Articles
If anyone has a newsletter article, or even some equipment they would like to sell, please let me know.
