April Club Meeting
The April meeting was held on April 7. There were 13 members in attendance. We discussed Wahoo once more, the upcoming first outdoor 3D, the state indoor that was held at our club, and a class Bill Arledge was planning to teach at our range.
New members:
There were no new memberships voted in at the April meeting.
State Indoor 300 Round:
Ahamo hosted the state indoor 300 round tournament. A special thanks to John Terfone and Mike Vandeman for tightening up the cardboard before the shoot. I can shoot at our targets now without needing the Styrofoam backing.
There were 42 total shooters for the 2-day shoot and it went real well. A special thanks to our members that helped out at the shoot.
Several of our members shot in the tournament and did very well. Scores from our members follow. Note Steve Williamson’s score. He shot back to back 300’s with 103 total x’s. An outstanding score, and it put him in 4th place.

Archery Instructor Certification:
Bill Arledge taught an Archery Instructor Certification Class at our range on April 19th. Nine people (including me) attended and were certified to be archery instructors. It was a pretty good class, that showed us all how to teach a class of beginners.
The class is nationally certified and teaches everyone the same process for instructing so that no matter where you teach a class you will be following the same technique as others.
Bill did an excellent job and we all enjoyed the class. If you are interested in taking that class, contact Bill and get on his list for the next class he will be teaching.
3D News:
Our first 3D of the year was outstanding . In spite of freezing cold temperatures, archers were there at 7:15am to register and shoot. In total we had 85 shooters. The weather warmed up a little and everything ran great.
Dave Jackson was given an ok to buy a new grill and he got us a real nice one. It is large one with 6 burners and one side burner. We had brats, cheeseburgers, and chili at our first shoot and food sales seemed to be doing pretty good.
Dave volunteered to run food for us again this year, and John Terfone volunteered to be his back-up.
Matt Turner and Troy Bryant did a great job organizing the first work party of the year. They had walked the course and marked off all of the positions for targets and the first shooting stake on each. They divided the workers up into 4 groups to set up targets and it went like clockwork. Even though it was the first set up of the year, we were done in about 2 1/2 hours. Great job Matt and Troy.
With that said, we will be saying good bye to both Matt and Troy shortly as they are both leaving the area. They did an outstanding job coordinating the set up for our shoots and will be missed.
Buck Knight has volunteered to take over the position of 3D coordinator and will be running things after Matt and Troy leave. Thank you Buck.
Next Shoot:
The next shoot will be on May 18. We will be setting up on the 17th at 9am again, and since we were able to leave the targets up after the first shoot, set up should be quick. If you want to shoot after set-up be sure to bring your bow.
I’m not sure if we will need to bring in all of the targets after the next shoot, but we may need to do that. The Archdioceses has asked us to bring in all of the targets when they start using the camping facility. Watch for news about this after the next club meeting.
More Club News:
We discussed upgrading some of the tools we have at the indoor range at our last meeting. The bow press we have will not handle parallel limb bows so we are looking at upgrading it. We also talked about getting some additional tools to leave out at the indoor range for members to use.
Bill Arledge said that when we do get a new bow press he would hold a training session for members, teaching us how to use the new bow press. New Bows can be extremely expensive and improper use of the bow press could damage a bow.
Sad News:
It is with sadness that I am reporting the passing of one of our members this past month. Bill Hoscheid Senior passed away after a brief battle with Cancer. Bill and his son often attended our shoots and he very much enjoyed the outdoors, archery, and the camaraderie with other club members. He will be missed.
Indoor Leagues:
Indoor leagues are over for the spring. Thank you Steve for running them this year. I shot in them this year and they were a lot of fun. It was great shooting with other members and just watching how well most were shooting.
The best way to improve in your own shooting is to observe others doing it right and watching how they do that. It is also an excellent opportunity to see what equipment others are using and to discuss what is new in the archery world. Outdoor Leagues: I haven’t heard anything about outdoor leagues this year. We may be discussing that at our next club meeting. So either attend to find out if we will be having them again this year, or wait until the next newsletter.
Work Party Information:
Remember, if you joined the club as a working member, you are expected to help out at work parties. We had a brief discussion about that at our last club meeting and may be addressing that issue at the next meeting as well. If you have any input on that be sure to attend the next meeting.
The year is almost half way over and if you haven’t put in your time you need to step up to the plate. Workparties are generally pretty easy when we get enough help like we did at our outdoor set-up this month, but if members don’t pitch in, then the work parties will be a chore for the few that do always show up. So please, come out and put in your time if you can.
We will be having workparties before each shoot, and on Sunday after each shoot to clean-up. You can even volunteer to help with food or registration.
